Sodium fluoroacetate was introduced as a rodenticide in the US in 1946. However, its considerable efficacy against target species is offset by comparable toxicity to other mammals and, to a lesser extent, birds and its use as a general rodenticide was therefore severely curtailed by 1990. Currently, sodium fluoroacetate is licensed in the US for use against coyotes, which prey on sheep and goats, and in Australia and New Zealand to kill unwanted introduced species. The extreme toxicity of…
An Outbreak of Sodium Fluoroacetate (1080) Intoxication in Selenium- and Copper-Deficient Sheep in California
TLDR
The pathological and toxicological findings were consistent with 1080 poisoning, possibly exacerbated by micronutrient deficiency.
Intoxicación por fluoroacetato de sodio
TLDR
Ethanol increases the level of acetat, thus providing an alternative substrate Krebs cycle and may offer benefits in the acute treatment of patients; however, management support is the mainstay of management of these cases.
Sodium fluoroacetate toxicity: a case report of malicious poisoning in dogs across a Phoenix, Arizona neighborhood
TLDR
Investigation of sodium fluoroacetate poisoning in domestic dogs in the United Sates found this compound is highly toxic and is capable of causing death in dogs, humans, other mammals, and insects in ingested quantities as small as a few droplets.
Intoxicação por monofluoroacetato em animais
TLDR
An updated critical review on MF poisoning is presented, since there is still not known any agent that effectively can reverse the poisoning, which generally is fatal.
The cardiopulmonary effects of sodium fluoroacetate (1080) in Sprague-Dawley rats
TLDR
The results of this study indicate that both tissue specific and systemic deficits contribute to the toxicological progression of 1080 intoxication and will need to be accounted for when developing any potential countermeasure for 1080 poisoning.
Survivors from β-fluoroethyl acetate poisoning show a selective cerebellar syndrome

Journal of Neurology, Neurosurgery, and Psychiatry

TLDR
It is shown that FEA poisoning causes a selective cerebellar syndrome in its survivors, and the selective involvement of the cerebellum might provide a useful model for cerebellary degeneration.
Reagents for Selective Fluoromethylation: A Challenge in Organofluorine Chemistry
TLDR
This Minireview summarizes both the classical and new generation of fluoromethylating agents.
Mechanistic insights into the dehalogenation reaction of fluoroacetate/fluoroacetic acid.
TLDR
A study based on density functional theory calculations of the S(N)2 initiation reaction modeled through the interaction between the substrate and the propionate anion as the nucleophile reveals that the selective protonation of the substrate catalyzes the reaction by decreasing the resistance of the structural and electronic reorganization needed to reach the transition state.

Toxicology of fluoroacetate: a review, with possible directions for therapy research
TLDR
This review deals with the clinical signs and physiological and biochemical mechanisms of FA intoxication to provide an explanation of why, even after decades of investigation, has no effective therapy to FA intoxication been elaborated.
Fatal poisoning with sodium fluoroacetate; report of a case.
TLDR
Sodium fluoroacetate, or "1080" as it was called during the investigation period, is said to be one of the most noxious substances known, since it is toxic to all mammals, man included.
Acute poisoning with sodium fluoroacetate (compound 1080).
TLDR
The case reported here ended fatally, pathological examination was performed, and the quantities of fluoroacetate in the organs were determined.

TLDR
The ability of fluoroacetate to potentiate the depressant action of barbiturates has been observed and the autoprotective effect in rats has been further clarified.

TLDR
CaG in combination with 240 mg NaSuc/kg offer a promising therapy modality in NaFAC intoxication, and additional studies involving biochemical parameters and other species are needed to confirm the efficacy and mechanism of action of this combination.
