In order to analyze and evaluate errors in inertial surveys, it is helpful to have good regional and global gravity field models. Such models, given in terms of spherical harmonic coefficients, can also be expressed in terms of Fourier coefficients which can be related to the local field models. Conversely, spherical harmonic models can be constructed based upon a Fourier fit to the regional and global data.
