We study the total mass-density profile for a sample of 14 fast-rotator early-type galaxies (stellar masses $10.2<\log M_\ast/M_\odot<11.7$). We combine observations from the SLUGGS and Atlas3D surveys to map out the stellar kinematics in two-dimensions, out to a median radius for the sample of four half-light radii $R_e$ (or 10 kpc), and a maximum radius of 2.0-6.2 $R_e$ (or 4-21 kpc). We use axisymmetric dynamical models based on the Jeans equations, which allow for a spatially varying…

Mass density slope of elliptical galaxies from strong lensing and resolved stellar kinematics
We discuss constraints on the mass density distribution (parameterized as $\rho\propto r^{-\gamma}$) in early-type galaxies provided by strong lensing and stellar kinematics data. The constraints
The MASSIVE Survey - V. Spatially-Resolved Stellar Angular Momentum, Velocity Dispersion, and Higher Moments of the 41 Most Massive Local Early-Type Galaxies
We present spatially-resolved two-dimensional stellar kinematics for the 41 most massive early-type galaxies (MK ~ 10^11.8 Msun) of the volume-limited (D < 108 Mpc) MASSIVE survey. For each galaxy,

We present results of a joint \textit{Chandra}/\textit{XMM-Newton} analysis of the early-type galaxies NGC 4649 and NGC 5846 aimed at investigating differences between mass profiles derived from
The co-evolution of total density profiles and central dark matter fractions in simulated early-type galaxies
We present evidence from cosmological hydrodynamical simulations for a co-evolution of the slope of the total (dark and stellar) mass density profile, gamma (tot), and the dark matter fraction within
Linear relation between H i circular velocity and stellar velocity dispersion in early-type galaxies, and slope of the density profiles
© 2016 The Authors Published by Oxford University Press on behalf of the Royal Astronomical Society. We report a tight linear relation between the H i circular velocity measured at 6 R e and the
Structure and Kinematics of Early-Type Galaxies from Integral Field Spectroscopy
Observations of galaxy isophotes, long-slit kinematics, and high-resolution photometry suggested a possible dichotomy between two distinct classes of elliptical galaxies. But these methods are
The SLUGGS survey: the mass distribution in early-type galaxies within five effective radii and beyond

Mapping the dark matter halo of early-type galaxy NGC 2974 through orbit-based models with combined stellar and cold gas kinematics
We present an orbit-based method of combining stellar and cold gas kinematics to constrain the dark matter profile of early-type galaxies. We apply this method to early-type galaxy NGC 2974, using

The slope of the mass profile and the tilt of the Fundamental Plane in early-type galaxies
We present a survey, using the Chandra X-ray observatory, of the central gravitating mass profiles in a sample of 10 galaxies, groups and clusters, spanning ∼2 orders of magnitude in virial mass. We

We present a two-dimensional kinematic analysis out to ∼2-5 effective radii (R{sub e} ) of 33 massive elliptical galaxies with stellar velocity dispersions σ > 150 km s{sup –1}. Our observations were
The bulge–halo conspiracy in massive elliptical galaxies: implications for the stellar initial mass function and halo response to baryonic processes
Recent studies have shown that massive elliptical galaxies have total mass density profiles within an effective radius that can be approximated as \rho_{tot}\propto r^{-\gamma'}, with mean slope
