Single crystals of La2Ni7 have been grown out of a binary, La-Ni melt. Temperature dependent, zero magnetic field, specific heat, electrical resistivity, and low field magnetization measurements indicate that there is a series of antiferromagnetic phase transitions at T1 = 61.0 ± 0.2 K, T2 = 56.5 ± 0.2 K and T3 = 42.2  0.2 K. The three specific heat anomalies found at these temperatures qualitatively have very small entropy changes associated with them and the anisotropic M(H) data saturate at…

Magnetic properties of La2Ni7
Abstract The magnetic properties of La 2 Ni 7 are examined. Single-phase hexagonal La 2 Ni 7 is found to order antiferromagnetically at T N = 51 K. The Curie-Weiss temperature is positive ( θ = 70
Thermodynamic and transport properties of single crystalline RCo2Ge2 (R=Y, La–Nd, Sm–Tm)
Abstract Single crystals of RCo 2 Ge 2 (R=Y, La–Nd, Sm–Tm) were grown using a self-flux method and were characterized by room-temperature powder X-ray diffraction; anisotropic, temperature and field
Itinerant electron magnetism of hexagonal La2Ni7
Magnetizations of itinerant electron magnets La 2 Ni 7 and related compounds with a hexagonal crystal structure were measured. Successive metamagnetic transitions were observed in La 2 Ni 7 , and H-T
Metamagnetic transitions in hexagonal La2Ni7
Abstract Magnetization measurements of hexagonal La2Ni7 were performed in magnetic fields of up to 15 T . In 54 K K , a field-induced metamagnetic transition was found to occur from an
Tricritical wings and modulated magnetic phases in LaCrGe3 under pressure
The authors show that LaCrGe3 exhibits a double-wing structure indicating strong similarities with ZrZn2 and UGe2 and also shows modulated magnetic phases similar to CeRuPO in its phase diagram, providing an example of an additional possibility for the phase diagram of metallic quantum ferromagnets.

Experimental data for the Curie-Weiss constant and the saturation magnetization of a wide variety of ferromagnetic substances are used to calculate respective values for the numbers of magnetic
Modulated magnetism in PrPtAl
The transition between paramagnetism and ferromagnetism is the paradigm for a continuous phase transition at finite temperature. When such a transition is tuned to zero temperature in clean
Investigation of weak itinerant ferromagnetism and critical behavior of Y 2 Ni 7
The weak itinerant ferromagnetic behavior of Y${}_{2}$Ni${}_{7}$ is investigated through magnetic, transport, and calorimetric measurements. The low value of the saturation moment, large
A diamond anvil cell for the investigation of superconductivity under pressures of up to 50 GPa: Pb as a low temperature manometer
A single-crystal diamond anvil cell is described which has been successfully cycled down to liquid helium temperatures in numerous experiments. Superconducting transitions are detected by a low
Relation between the specific heat and susceptibility of an antiferromagnet
Abstract It is shown by a general theoretical argument that the variation of the magnetic specific heat of a ‘simple’ antiferromagnet, in particular the singular behaviour in the region of the
