We present results from an EU Horizon2020-funded benchmark study (2016-2019) that addresses critical points in reconstructing physical and thermal properties of near-Earth, main-belt, and trans-Neptunian objects. The combination of the visual and thermal data from the ground and from astrophysics space missions is key to improving the scientific understanding of these objects. The development of new tools will be crucial for the interpretation of much larger data sets, but also for the… Expand

Small Bodies Near and Far (SBNAF): A benchmark study on physical and thermal properties of small bodies in the Solar System
Abstract The combination of visible and thermal data from the ground and astrophysics space missions is key to improving the scientific understanding of near-Earth, main-belt, trojans, centaurs, andExpand
Spectral and rotational properties of near-Earth asteroid (162173) Ryugu, target of the Hayabusa2 sample return mission
Context. The JAXA Hayabusa2 mission will perform the first ever sample return from a primitive asteroid. The target near-Earth asteroid (162173) Ryugu will be reached in mid-2018 and its samples willExpand
TNOs are Cool: A Survey of the Transneptunian Region
Over one thousand objects have so far been discovered orbiting beyond Neptune. These trans-Neptunian objects (TNOs) represent the primitive remnants of the planetesimal disk from which the planetsExpand
Sizes and albedos of Mars-crossing asteroids from WISE/NEOWISE data
Context. Mars-crossing asteroids (MCs) are a dynamically unstable group between the main belt and the near-Earth populations. Characterising the physical properties of a large sample of MCs can helpExpand
Hayabusa-2 mission target asteroid 162173 Ryugu (1999 JU3): Searching for the object's spin-axis orientation
The JAXA Hayabusa2 mission was approved in 2011 with launch planned for late 2014. Arriving at the asteroid (162173) 1999 JU_3 in 2018, it will survey it, land, and obtain surface material, thenExpand
Uninterrupted optical light curves of main-belt asteroids from the K2 mission
Context. Because the second reaction wheel failed, a new mission was conceived for the otherwise healthy Kepler space telescope. In the course of the K2 mission, the telescope is staring at the planeExpand
Results from a triple chord stellar occultation and far-infrared photometry of the trans-Neptunian object (229762) 2007 UK126
Context. A stellar occultation by a trans-Neptunian object (TNO) provides an opportunity to probe the size and shape of these distant solar system bodies. In the past seven years, severalExpand
The heart of the swarm: K2 photometry and rotational characteristics of 56 Jovian Trojan asteroids
We present fully covered phased light curves for 56 Jovian Trojan asteroids as observed by the K2 mission of the Kepler space telescope. This set of objects has been monitored during Campaign 6 andExpand
Discovery of a Satellite of the Large Trans-Neptunian Object (225088) 2007 OR10
2007 OR10 is currently the third largest known dwarf planet in the trans-Neptunian region, with an effective radiometric diameter of ~1535 km. It has a slow rotation period of ~45 hr that wasExpand
Shape Models and Physical Properties of Asteroids
Despite the large amount of high quality data generated in recent space encounters with asteroids, the majority of our knowledge about these objects comes from ground based observations. AsteroidsExpand
