Pipamperone was compared double‐blindly with placebo to evaluate its capacity to relieve sleep disorders in 40 depressive inpatients. At the end of the 1‐week trial, most of the items relating to sleep disturbances had improved significantly in the 24 patients of the pipamperone group whereas only a few items showed such a change in the control group. On the Hamilton depression scale, improvement in the pipamperone patients was also superior to that in the placebo group as regards the items…

Risperidone versus haloperidol in the treatment of chronic schizophrenic inpatients: a multicentre double‐blind comparative study

R risperidone is comparable to haloperidol as an antipsychotic, but that it has a safer EPS profile, according to the laboratory, endocrinological and cardiovascular safety parameters.

Clinical Characteristics of Placebo Response in Depression

Placebo effect went unnoticed for centuries and undoubtedly accounted for the transient popularity of many ineffective medical treatments. Randomized double-blind placebo-controlled drug studies have

Clinical Features, DST, and Response to Placebo in Depressed Outpatients

The efficacy of tricyclic antidepressants in treating acute depression has been well established. Morris and Beck1 suggested that antidepressants alleviate depressive symptoms in approximately 70% of

Therapeutic effect and safety of increasing doses of risperidone (R 64766) in psychotic patients

Risperidone (R 64766) was administered during 4 weeks in increasing doses to 17 psychotic patients, to evaluate the hematological and cardiovascular safety, the therapeutic effect, side effects,

Effect of risperidone on hostility in schizophrenia.

Risperidone had a greater selective effect on hostility than did haloperidol or placebo, and this finding should encourage tests of ris peridone as a treatment for patients who show frequent overt physical aggression.

A comparison of trazodone and fluoxetine: implications for a serotonergic mechanis of antidepressant action

The preclinical and clinical data suggest that trazodone acts as an antidepressant via antagonist action at 5-HT2/1C receptors, while fluoxetine likely acts as a antidepressant via inhibition of 5- HT uptake.

Synergistic Action of 5-HT2A Antagonists and Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitors in Neuropsychiatric Disorders

Clinical and preclinical observations suggest that the combination of highly selective 5-HT2A antagonists and SSRIs, as well as strategies to combine high-potency 5- HT2A receptor and5-HT transporter blockade in a single compound, offer the potential for therapeutic advances in a number of neuropsychiatric disorders.

Serotonin Involvement in the Action of Antipsychotic Drugs

The development of selective 5HT2 antagonists devoid of partial agonist activity revived the interest in the physiological and pathological role of serotonin.
