The Norway lobster, Nephrops norvegicus, is a benthic burrowing decapod crustacean that inhabits muddy bottoms on the continental shelves and slopes of the North-Eastern Atlantic and the Mediterranean. Highly regarded and prized as a delicacy, it is a sought-after species for the world trawl fisheries which land thousands of tons (Saila and Marchessault, 1980), valued at several hundred million of dollars per year.
