Assuming a spherical nucleating particle, the effect of particle size and surface properties upon nucleation efficiency is investigated. A general result is derived which is then applied to the condensation, sublimation, and freezing of water on foreign nuclei. The size effect is found to become important in the range 100–1000 A of particle radius. For particles larger than this, nucleation efficiency is substantially independent of size, while for smaller particles the efficiency is very…
Heterogeneous nucleation on aerosol particles
We have applied density functional theory in statistical mechanisms to study the heterogeneous nucleation of supersaturated vapors on spherical aerosol-like substrates. Our calculations reveal the
A method of determination of critical nucleus parameters in heterogeneous nucleation of supersaturated vapor in a continuous-flow chamber
Heterogeneous nucleation often plays a key role inatmospheric and technological processes. For example, knowledge of the parameters that determine the efficiency of heterogeneous nucleation is
Effect of Particle Size on the Ice Nucleating Ability of AgIAgBrCuI System
The effect of particle size on the ice nucleating behaviour of AgI-AgBr-CuI system has been studied for the first time. Six samples of different molar ratios and five sizes in each sample are
Heterogeneous vapor bubble nucleation on a rough surface.
Vapor bubble nucleation on a microrough surface wetted by a volatile, incompressible liquid has been analyzed and the average density of the nucleation sites has been evaluated for a surface whose (small) deviation from a plane is specified by a Gaussian random function.

Abstract The experimentally observed crystallization of supercooled water near −40C is examined in terms of the theory of homogeneous nucleation. The thermodynamic and molecular-kinetic nature, of
The spontaneous crystallization of supercooled water
It is shown theoretically that the rate of nucleation of the ice phase in supercooled water changes very rapidly with temperature in the neighbourhood of −40°C. Thus, in chilling a supercooled water

A mechanism is proposed by means of which the time lag in phase transitions initiated by foreign bodies may be calculated. Calculations are performed for silver iodide nucleating supercooled water
Sur la formation des germes de condensation et de solidification autour d'un noyau solide insoluble
Solid insoluble nuclei help the formation of water or ice inasmuch as the adhesion-coefficient of water or ice on the solid be positive. If this coefficient is greater than 1 and if the solid nucleus
