This tutorial review covers recent developments in using single-molecule fluorescence microscopy to study nanoscale catalysis. The single-molecule approach enables following catalytic and electrocatalytic reactions on nanocatalysts, including metal nanoparticles and carbon nanotubes, at single-reaction temporal resolution and nanometer spatial precision.
