The effect of terbutaline, 250 micrograms given as an intravenous bolus injection in term labor, was investigated with use of a transducer-tipped catheter placed in the uterine cavity. Maternal side effects were common but well tolerated. No fetal side effects were recorded. The results suggest that 250 micrograms of terbutaline as a bolus injection gives a safe and effective inhibition of uterine activity in term labor.
