Abstract

The English, Scottish and Welsh governments are to examine separately whether and how healthcare assistants (HCAs) should be regulated, it emerged last week. An overarching UK policy will result, health officials from each nation have told Nursing Standard. Health minister Jacqui Smith has already indicated that the English government favours HCAs being included on a new social care register.
