A bstractWe obtain holographic constraints on the microscopic degeneracies of black holes by computing the exact macroscopic quantum entropy using localization, including the effects of string worldsheet instantons in the supergravity effective action. For 14$$ \frac{1}{4} $$-BPS black holes in type II string theory on K3 × T2, the constraints can be explicitly checked against expressions for the microscopic BPS counting functions that are known in terms of certain mock modular forms. We find…

Mock modularity from black hole scattering states

A bstractThe exact degeneracies of quarter-BPS dyons in Type II string theory on K3 × T2 are given by Fourier coefficients of the inverse of the Igusa cusp form. For a fixed magnetic charge invariant

Quantum black hole entropy, localization and the stringy exclusion principle

A bstractSupersymmetric localization has led to remarkable progress in computing quantum corrections to BPS black hole entropy. The program has been successful especially for computing perturbative

The gravitational path integral for $ N=4$ BPS black holes from black hole microstate counting

We use the exact degeneracy formula of single-centred 14 BPS dyonic black holes with unit torsion in 4D N = 4 toroidally compactified heterotic string theory to improve on the existing formulation of

On the quantum entropy function in 4d gauged supergravity

A bstractWe analyze BPS black hole attractors in the conformal 4d gauged supergravity formalism and apply the technique known as supergravity localization in order to evaluate Sen’s quantum entropy

Higher derivative corrections to BPS black hole attractors in 4d gauged supergravity

A bstractWe analyze BPS black hole attractors in 4d gauged supergravity in the presence of higher derivative supersymmetric terms, including a Weyl-squared-type action, and determine the resulting

Dyonic black hole degeneracies in $$ \mathcal{N} $$ = 4 string theory from Dabholkar-Harvey degeneracies

The degeneracies of single-centered dyonic $\frac14$-BPS black holes (BH) in Type II string theory on K3$\times T^2$ are known to be coefficients of certain mock Jacobi forms arising from the Igusa

A glimpse of 2D and 3D quantum field theories through number theory

The work presented here lies at the intersection between quantum field theory, string theory, and number theory. The latter is the fil rouge connecting extremal conformal field theories,

An approach to BPS black hole microstate counting in an N = 2 STU model

We consider four-dimensional dyonic single-center BPS black holes in the $N=2$ STU model of Sen and Vafa. By working in a region of moduli space where the real part of two of the three complex

Abstract We reinterpret the OSV formula for the on-shell action/entropy function of asymptotically flat BPS black holes as a fixed point formula that is formally equivalent to a recent gluing

U-duality Invariant Quantum Entropy from Sums of Kloosterman Sums

U-duality plays a special role in the study of the microscopic degrees of freedom of supersymmetric black holes. To be consistent with duality, the black hole quantum degeneracy must obey special

Supersymmetric index from black hole entropy

For BPS black holes with at least four unbroken supercharges, we describe how the macroscopic entropy can be used to compute an appropriate index, which can be then compared with the same index

Certain helicity trace indices of charged states in N = 4 and N = 8 superstring theory have been computed exactly using their explicit weakly coupled microscopic descrip- tion. These indices are

Quantum black holes, localization, and the topological string

We use localization to evaluate the functional integral of string field theory on AdS2 × S2 background corresponding to the near horizon geometry of supersymmetric black holes in 4d compactifications

Localization & exact holography

A bstractWe consider the AdS2/CFT1 holographic correspondence near the horizon of big four-dimensional black holes preserving four supersymmetries in toroidally compactified Type-II string theory.

Quantum black hole entropy and the holomorphic prepotential of $ \mathcal{N}=2 $ supergravity

A bstractSupersymmetric terms in the effective action of $ \mathcal{N}=2 $ supergravity in four dimensions are generically classified into chiral-superspace integrals and full-superspace integrals.

A Farey tale for = 4 dyons

We study exponentially suppressed contributions to the degeneracies of extremal black holes. Within Sen's quantum entropy function framework and focusing on extremal black holes with an intermediate

Functional determinants, index theorems, and exact quantum black hole entropy

A bstractThe exact quantum entropy of BPS black holes can be evaluated using localization in supergravity. An important ingredient in this program, that has been lacking so far, is the one-loop

Black hole partition functions and duality

The macroscopic entropy and the attractor equations for BPS black holes in four-dimensional N = 2 supergravity theories follow from a variational principle for a certain `entropy function'. We

Quantum Black Holes, Wall Crossing, and Mock Modular Forms

We show that the meromorphic Jacobi form that counts the quarter-BPS states in N=4 string theories can be canonically decomposed as a sum of a mock Jacobi form and an Appell-Lerch sum. The quantum

Counting BPS black holes in toroidal Type II string theory

We derive a $U$-duality invariant formula for the degeneracies of BPS multiplets in a D1-D5 system for toroidal compactification of the type II string. The elliptic genus for this system vanishes,
