Multidisciplinary design optimization is considered in the context of designing a family of aircraft. Aframework is developed in which multiple aircraft, each with different missions but sharing common parts, can be optimized simultaneously.Thenewframeworkisusedtogaininsighttotheeffectofdesignvariablescalingontheoptimization algorithm.
