Two of Peter Schmidt’s many contributions to econometrics have been to introduce a simultaneous logit model for bivariate binary outcomes and to study estimation of dynamic linear fixed effects panel data models using short panels. In this paper, we study a dynamic panel data version of the bivariate model introduced in Schmidt and Strauss (1975) that allows for lagged dependent variables and fixed effects as in Ahn and Schmidt (1995). We combine a conditional likelihood approach with a method of…

Moment Conditions for Dynamic Panel Logit Models with Fixed Effects
- Economics, Mathematics
- 2020
This paper builds on Bonhomme (2012) to develop a method to systematically construct moment conditions for dynamic panel data logit models with fixed effects. After introducing the moment conditions…
Panel Data Discrete Choice Models with Lagged Dependent Variables
- Economics, Mathematics
- 2000
In this paper, we consider identification and estimation in panel data discrete choice models when the explanatory variable set includes strictly exogenous variables, lags of the endogenous dependent…
Functional Differencing

In nonlinear panel data models, the incidental parameter problem remains a challenge to econometricians. Available solutions are often based on ingenious, modelspecific methods. In this paper, we…
Estimation of Dynamic Panel Data Sample Selection Models
- Mathematics, Economics
- 2001
This paper considers the problem of identification and estimation in panel data sample selection models with a binary selection rule, when the latent equations contain strictly exogenous variables,…
Exploration of dynamic fixed effects logit models from a traditional angle
- Mathematics, Economics

This paper proposes the transformations for the dynamic fixed effects logit models. Firstly, the transformations construct the valid moment conditions (including the stationarity moment conditions)…
SEMIPARAMETRIC ANALYSIS OF RANDOM EFFECTS LINEAR MODELS FROM BINARY PANEL DATA
- Mathematics, Economics
- 1985
Andersen (1970) considered the problem of inference on random effects linear models from binary response panel data. He showed that inference is possible if the disturbances for each panel member are…
Multiplicative Panel Data Models Without the Strict Exogeneity Assumption
- Economics, MathematicsEconometric Theory

This paper considers estimation of multiplicative, unobserved components panel data models without imposing a strict exogeneity assumption on the conditioning variables. The method of moments…
Estimating vector autoregressions with panel data
- Economics

This paper considers estimation and testing of vector autoregressio n coefficients in panel data, and applies the techniques to analyze the dynamic relationships between wages an d hours worked in…
Incomplete Simultaneous Discrete Response Model with Multiple Equilibria
- Economics, Mathematics
- 2003
A bivariate simultaneous discrete response model which is a stochastic representation of equilibria in a two-person discrete game is studied. The presence of multiple equilibria in the underlying…
