Large-scale simulations of the Centaur population are carried out. The evolution of 23 328 particles based on the orbits of 32 well-known Centaurs is followed for up to 3 Myr in the forward and backward direction under the influence of the four massive planets. The objects exhibit a rich variety of dynamical behaviour with half-lives ranging from 540 kyr (1996 AR20) to 32 Myr (2000 FZ53). The mean half-life of the entire sample of Centaurs is 2.7 Myr. The data are analysed using a…

Analysis of the orbit of the Centaur asteroid 2009 HW77
We present the time evolution of orbital elements of the Centaur asteroid 2009 HW77, discovered by KC and IE, forwards and backwards in time over a 10-Myr period. The dynamical behaviour is analysed
The dynamics of Centaurs in the vicinity of the 2:1 meanmotion resonance of Neptune and Uranus Trojan region
In this work we present the results of a suite of dynamical simulations following the orbital evolution of 8,022 hypothetical Centaur objects. These Centaurs begin our integrations on orbits in the
The Active Centaurs
The Centaurs are recent escapees from the Kuiper Belt that are destined either to meet fiery oblivion in the hot inner regions of the solar system or to be ejected to the interstellar medium by
The threat of Centaurs for terrestrial planets and their orbital evolution as impactors
Centaurs are solar system objects with orbits situated among the orbits of Jupiter and Neptune. Centaurs represent one of the sources of Near-Earth Objects. Thus, it is crucial to understand their
The Neptune Trojans – a new source for the Centaurs?
The fact that the Centaurs are the primary source of the short-period comets is well established. However, the origin of the Centaurs themselves is still under some debate, with a variety of
A Model for the Common Origin of Jupiter Family and Halley Type Comets
A numerical simulation of the Oort cloud is used to explain the observed orbital distributions and numbers of Jupiter-family (JF) and Halley-type (HT) short-period (SP) comets. Comets are given
The Generation of the Distant Kuiper Belt by Planet Nine from an Initially Broad Perihelion Distribution
The observation that the orbits of long-period Kuiper Belt objects (KBOs) are anomalously clustered in physical space has recently prompted the Planet Nine hypothesis—the proposed existence of a
We carried out extensive numerical orbit integrations to probe the long-term chaotic dynamics of the two strongest mean-motion resonances of Neptune in the Kuiper Belt, the 3:2 (Plutinos) and 2:1
On a possibility of transfer of asteroids from the 2:1 mean motion resonance with Jupiter to the Centaur zone
The paper analyses possible transfers of bodies from the main asteroid belt (MBA) to the Centaur region. The orbits of asteroids in the 2:1 mean motion resonance (MMR) with Jupiter are analysed. We

Physical survey of 24 Centaurs with visible photometry
The populations of comet-like bodies in the Solar system
A new classification scheme is introduced for comet-like bodies in the Solar system. It covers the traditional comets as well as the Centaurs and Edgeworth–Kuiper belt objects. At low inclinations,
High‐eccentricity trans‐Neptunian objects as a source of Jupiter‐family comets
The dynamical evolution of trans-Neptunian objects (TNOs) to the inner Solar system is investigated. The study is based on the observed sample of high-eccentricity TNOs with perihelia in the
The Long-Term Dynamical Behavior of Short-Period Comets
We have developed and carefully tested a new computer code to follow the long-term dynamical evolution of a swarm of test particles in the solar system. This new integrator is approximately an order
Properties of the nuclei of Centaurs Chiron and Chariklo
We analyze visible, infrared, radio and spectroscopic observations of 2060 Chiron in a synthetic way to determine the physical properties of its nucleus. From visible observations performed from 1969
ESO large program on physical studies of Transneptunian Objects and Centaurs: Visible photometry – First results
We present the first results of BVRI photometry of Transneptunian Objects (TNOs) and Centaurs obtained through the ESO Large Program on physical studies of these icy bodies in the outer solar system.
Dynamical capture and physical decay of short-period comets
Photometric study of Centaurs 10199 Chariklo (1997 CU26) and 1999 UG5
We present the results of visible broad band photometry of two Centaurs, 10199 Chariklo (1997 CU26) and 1999 UG5 from data obtained at the 1.52 meter telescope of the National Astronomical
Rapid dynamical evolution of giant comet Chiron
Numerical simulation of orbits like that of the giant comet Chiron show a distinct asymmetry between past and future. Simulations extending ±100,000 years from the present suggest that on this
Colors of Minor Bodies in the Outer Solar System ?;?? A statistical analysis
We present a compilation of all available colors for 104 Minor Bodies in the Outer Solar System (MBOSSes); for each object, the original references are listed. The measurements were combined in a way
