We simulate incompressible MHD turbulence using a pseudospectral code. Our major conclusions are : (1) MHD turbulence is most conveniently described in terms of counterpropagating shear Alfve n and slow waves. Shear waves control the cascade dynamics. Slow waves play a passive role and Alfve n adopt the spectrum set by the shear waves. Cascades composed entirely of shear waves do Alfve n Alfve n not generate a signiÐcant measure of slow waves.
