The fast and sensitive detection of virus neuraminidase effectiveness (influenza virus A and B or mumps virus) and of antibodies against virus neuraminidase in human serum is described. Lectin mainly obtained from Arachis hypogaea and Helix pomatia is used in the lectin-neuraminidase test (LN-test). The lectins are capable of agglutinating erythrocytes after virus incubation because virus neuraminidase reveals the T-antigen to be situated on erythrocytes. The presence of anti-neuraminidase in… Expand
Comparison of the neuraminidase antigenicity in recently circulating influenza A and vaccine viruses
TLDR
Ferret antisera against NAs from the recommended H1N1 and H3N2 vaccine strains for the 2020-21 northern hemisphere influenza season recognize and inhibit the most prevalent circulating N1s and N2s, suggesting the NAsFrom the influenza A vaccine and circulating strains are antigenically similar. The lectin neuraminidase inhibition test: a new method for the detection of antibodies to neuraminidase.
TLDR
The LNI-test gave results comparable with those provided by the conventional neuraminidase inhibition test, which used smaller amounts of materials, was less time consuming than the NI-test and was more sensitive. Expand
Identification and phylogenetic comparison of Salem virus, a novel paramyxovirus of horses.
TLDR
Sequencing of P gene cDNA clones confirmed the use of a cotranscriptional editing mechanism for the regulation of P/V expression, and a virus that could not be identified as a previously known equine virus was isolated from the mononuclear cells of a horse. Expand
Characterization of a paramyxovirus isolated from the brain of a piglet in Mexico
TLDR
Serologically the virus proved to be distinct from the paramyxoviruses tested so far, and studies on experimental transmission showed that young pigs are susceptible to infection which induced a disease similar to that in natural cases. Expand
