Linear feedback shift registers (LFSRs) and nonlinear feedback shift registers (NLFSRs) are major components of stream ciphers. It has been shown that, under certain idealized assumptions, LFSRs and LFSR-based stream ciphers are susceptible to cryptanalysis using simple power analysis (SPA).
