Two projects, Silver Stringers and Junior Journalists, are examples of a shift in the role of the news consumer—community members are actively engaged in publishing pursuits previously confined to the traditional media. Their activities range from news gathering and dissemination to asking questions and debating issues of importance, whether local, international, or topical in scope.
