Purple corn (PC) is known to be rich in many bioactive and polyphenolic compounds and these compounds’ role in developing tolerance to unfavorable conditions is a matter of curiosity nowadays. We performed series of experiments to highlight the possible beneficial effects of Si priming [0, 0.75, 1.5, 3 and 6 mM] on PC’s A (photosynthesis rate), E (transpiration rate), WUE (water use efficiency), SPAD, LN (leaf number), SL (seedling length), SW (seedling weight), proline, MDA (malondialdehyde…

Impacts of Priming with Silicon on the Growth and Tolerance of Maize Plants to Alkaline Stress
TLDR
These results indicate that Si plays a pivotal role in alleviating the negative effects of alkaline stress on maize growth by improving water status, enhancing photosynthetic pigments, accumulating osmoprotectants rather than proline, activating the antioxidant machinery, and maintaining the balance of K+/Na+ ratio.
Growth, biochemical modifications and proline metabolism in Helianthus annuus L. as induced by drought stress.
Silicon Priming Regulates Morpho-Physiological Growth and Oxidative Metabolism in Maize under Drought Stress
TLDR
The present investigation suggests that Si priming mitigates the harmful effects of drought stress and contributes to the recovery of maize growth.
[Effects of exogenous silicon on active oxygen scavenging systems in chloroplasts of cucumber (Cucumis sativus L.) seedlings under salt stress].
TLDR
It may be concluded that Si could decrease absorption of Na(+) and increase ability of active oxygen scavenging in chloroplasts, therefore the injury of chloroplast membrane under salinity stress in cucumber was alleviated.
Improvement of wheat (Triticum aestivum) drought tolerance by seed priming with silicon
Silicon has the potential to improve drought tolerance in crops. Seeds primed with silicon were used in the present study to explore its potential benefit to withstand water stress. Seeds of two

SILICON INDUCED IMPROVEMENT IN MORPHO-PHYSIOLOGICAL TRAITS OF MAIZE (Zea Mays L.) UNDER WATER DEFICIT
TLDR
Silicon application to drought stressed maize plants was better to improve the growth and dry matter could be attributed to improved osmotic adjustment, photosynthetic rate and lowered transpiration.
