Introduction. Little is known about the toxicity of sildenafil overdose in the pediatric population. We present a case of prolonged priapism and tachycardia due to unintentional sildenafil overdose in a child. Case report. A 19-month-old male ingested up to six 50 mg Viagra tablets 45 minutes prior to presentation at the emergency department. Initial vital signs included temperature 98.2°F, blood pressure 90/58 mmHg, heart rate 140, respirations 20, and oxygen saturation of 100% on room air…

Resistant pediatric priapism: A real challenge for the urologist.

An 8-year-old boy with known cerebral palsy came to the emergency department with sustained painful erection for 12 hours and an arteriovenous fistula was discovered and treated by embolization, and the flaccid state was achieved and the patient was discharged the day after the embolizing.

Sildenafil Citrate Overdose in a 3-Month Postterm Premature Infant With Pulmonary Artery Hypertension

It is shown that choices in the management of sildenafil intoxication can be made based on the knowledge of s Bildenafils pharmacokinetics in young children, even by a young patient with underlying heart and lung disease.

An Accidental Repetitive 10-Fold Overdose of Sildenafil in a Young Infant with Pulmonary Hypertension

The mild symptoms upon an overdose with the role of therapeutic drug monitoring to monitor exposure in relation to symptoms and therewith support clinical decision-making are described.

A Non-Fatal Self-Poisoning Attempt with Sildenafil.

In this subject, sildenafil showed good tolerability because few symptoms occurred and only moderate supportive therapy was needed for full recovery without sequelae, and the highest serum concentration, ever reported.

Priapism and sickle-cell anemia: diagnosis and nonsurgical therapy.

Considering the embarrassing nature of the problem and the dire consequences to erectile function, it is important to inform patients, parents, and providers about the relationship of SCD to prolonged painful erections.

Evaluation and management of priapism: 2009 update

Stuttering (recurrent) ischemic priapism is a challenging and poorly understood condition; new management strategies currently under investigation may improve the ability to care for men with this condition.

Priapism: pathogenesis, epidemiology, and management.

INTRODUCTION Priapism describes a persistent erection arising from dysfunction of mechanisms regulating penile tumescence, rigidity, and flaccidity. A correct diagnosis of priapism is a matter of

An update on the drug safety of treating erectile dysfunction

Treatment options for erectile dysfunction have evolved over the last two decades, particularly after the introduction of phosphodiesterase type-5 inhibitors (PDE5Is), but issues raised regarding safety and toxicity following ED treatments are not straightforward.

Sildenafil Citrate Ingestion in a Pediatric Patient

Pediatric ingestion of sildenafil may result in mild symptoms including persistent flushing and penile engorgement with associated pain, which may persist even after resolution of the erection.

Fatal overdosage with sildenafil citrate (Viagra1): first report and review of the literature

The main autopsy findings were cardiomegaly with dilated cardiomyopathy, diffuse coronary atherosclerosis with no sign of acute ischaemic disease, and extensive fibrosis of the myocardium, especially affecting the cardiac conducting tissue.

Sildenafil: Clinical Toxicology Profile

It is indicated for the treatment of male erectile dysfunction and previously unpublished data from the American Association of Poison Control Centers Toxic Exposure Surveillance System indicate that unintentional pediatric exposures to sildenafil are unlikely to be associated with adverse effects.

Post-mortem detection and identification of sildenafil (Viagra) and its metabolites by LC/MS and LC/MS/MS

Findings prove that sildenafil was taken some time prior to death, but the causality of sildanafil intake and fatal cardiac failure could not be proven, since no blood was available for analysis.

Acute priapism associated with the use of sildenafil in a patient with sickle cell trait.

Sildenafil, an oral agent that has proven effective for the treatment of erectile dysfunction, enables a natural erectile response to sexual stimulation by enhancing the relaxant effect of sildenAFil.
