In flat spacetime, the vacuum neutrino flavor oscillations are known to be sensitive only to the difference between the squared masses, and not to the individual masses, of neutrinos. In this work, we show that the lensing of neutrinos induced by a gravitational source substantially modifies this standard picture and it gives rise to a novel contribution through which the oscillation probabilities also depend on the individual neutrino masses. A gravitating mass located between a source and a…

Neutrino oscillations in gravitational and cosmological backgrounds

We use the eikonal approximation in order to calculate the additional phase shift between two neutrino mass eigenstates during their propagation in a background of gravitational wave or scalar

GRBs from neutrino pair annihilation in the presence of quintessence surrounding a black hole

Quintessence fields, introduced to explain the speed-up of the Universe, might affect the geometry of spacetime surrounding black holes, as compared to the standard Schwarzschild and Kerr geometries.

Effects of Modified Theories of Gravity on Neutrino Pair Annihilation Energy Deposition near Neutron Stars

We study the neutrino pair annihilation into electron–positron pairs ( ) near the surface of a neutron star. The analysis is performed in the framework of extended theories of gravity. The latter

On the observability of gravitational source rotation in neutrino flavor oscillations

We study neutrino oscillations in a rotating spacetime under the weak gravity limit for the neutrino trajectories constrained in the equatorial plane. Using the asymptotic form of the Kerr metric, we

Neutrino spin oscillations in conformally gravity coupling models and quintessence surrounding a black hole

In this paper, we study the spin transitions of neutrinos caused by the interaction with a gravitational field. We consider a model with a scalar field (describing screening effects) conformally

Neutrino pair annihilation ($$\nu {\bar{\nu }}\rightarrow e^-e^+$$) in the presence of quintessence surrounding a black hole

Quintessence fields, introduced to explain the speed-up of the Universe, might affect the geometry of spacetime surrounding black holes, as compared to the standard Schwarzschild and Kerr geometries.

Present and Future Contributions of Reactor Experiments to Mass Ordering and Neutrino Oscillation Studies

After a long a glorious history, marked by the first direct proofs of neutrino existence and of the mixing between the first and third neutrino generations, the reactor antineutrino experiments are

Neutrino interferometry in curved spacetime

Gravitational lensing introduces the possibility of multiple (macroscopic) paths from an astrophysical neutrino source to a detector. Such a multiplicity of paths can allow for quantum mechanical

Neutrino oscillations in non-inertial frames and the violation of the equivalence principle Neutrino mixing induced by the equivalence principle violation

Abstract. Neutrino oscillations are analyzed in an accelerating and rotating reference frame, assuming that the gravitational coupling of neutrinos is flavor dependent, which implies a violation of

The field-theoretical approach to coherence in neutrino oscillations

We study the conditions for the existence of neutrino oscillations in the field-theoretical approach which combines neutrino production and detection processes in a single Feynman graph. The

Neutrino cosmology and Planck

Relic neutrinos play an important role in the evolution of the Universe, modifying some of the cosmological observables. We summarize the main aspects of cosmological neutrinos and describe how the

Revisiting the quantum field theory of neutrino oscillations in vacuum

We consider neutrino oscillations in vacuum in the framework of quantum field theory in which neutrino production and detection processes are part of a single Feynman diagram and the corresponding

Comment on"Gravitationally Induced Neutrino-Oscillation Phases"

We critically examine the recent claim of a “new effect” of gravitationally induced quantum mechanical phases in neutrino oscillations. A straightfor-ward exercise in the Schwarzschild coordinates

Neutrino spin flip around a Schwarzschild black hole

We propose a new approach to the study of spin-flip probability for massive Dirac neutrinos orbiting around a Schwarzschild black hole, recently considered by Dvornikov (2006 Int. J. Mod. Phys. 15

Paradoxes of neutrino oscillations

Despite the theory of neutrino oscillations being rather old, some of its basic issues are still being debated in the literature. We discuss a number of such issues, including the relevance of the
