Hydrogen sulfide (H2S) is a novel type signaling molecule in plants. Seed germination is a key stage of life cycle of plants, which is vulnerable to environmental stress including high temperature. However, under high temperature stress, whether pre-soaking of maize seeds with NaHS (a H2S donor) could improve seed germination and seedling growth and the possible mechanisms are not completely clear. In this study, maize seeds pre-soaked with NaHS enhanced germination percentage, sprout length…

Melatonin enhances thermotolerance of maize seedlings (Zea mays L.) by modulating antioxidant defense, methylglyoxal detoxification, and osmoregulation systems

TLDR
It is reported that MT could enhance the thermotolerance of maize seedlings by modulating the antioxidant defense, MG detoxification, and osmoregulation systems.

Hydrogen Sulfide Alleviates Waterlogging-Induced Damage in Peach Seedlings via Enhancing Antioxidative System and Inhibiting Ethylene Synthesis

TLDR
It is found that the effect of exogenous H2S depended on the concentration and 0.2 mM sodium hydrosulfide (NaHS) showed the best remission effect on peach seedlings under waterlogging stress, suggesting H1S as a potential candidate in reducing waterlogged-induced damage in Peach seedlings.

Physiological role of hydrogen sulfide in seed germination and seedling development under stress conditions

TLDR
The use of H2S to establish biotechnological strategies to minimize stress factors is a promising approach to improve crop productivity and its potential use to improve the establishment of plants is provided.

Nitric oxide induced thermotolerance in strawberry plants by activation of antioxidant systems and transcriptional regulation of heat shock proteins

ABSTRACT An experiment was conducted to examine whether application of sodium nitroprusside (SNP), a donor of NO, can improve thermo-tolerance of strawberry (Fragaria × ananassa) plants through

Hydrogen sulfide alleviates oxidative damage under excess nitrate stress through MAPK/NO signaling in cucumber.

Gasotransmitter H2S accelerates seed germination via activating AOX mediated cyanide-resistant respiration pathway

TLDR
Results indicated that the alternative oxidase (AOX), a cyanide-insensitive terminal oxidase, can be stimulated by imbibition, and the expression of AOX genes was provoked lag behind H2S production during germination.

Hydrogen sulfide and rhizobia synergistically regulate nitrogen (N) assimilation and remobilization during N deficiency-induced senescence in soybean.

TLDR
H2 S enhances the vegetative and reproductive growth of soybean, presumably through interactions with rhizobia under conditions of N deficiency, and Regulation of the expression of SAGs during N deficiency-induced senescence is shown.

Hydrogen Sulfide: A Robust Combatant against Abiotic Stresses in Plants

TLDR
Hydrogen sulfide is predominantly considered as a gaseous transmitter or signaling molecule in plants and its role during abiotic stresses, crosstalk of H2S with other biomolecules such as NO and phytohormones have also been explored in plant signaling.

Elucidation of sub-cellular H2S metabolism in Solanum lycopersicum L. and its assessment under development and biotic stress

TLDR
The present investigation explored the elucidation of H2S metabolism in crop plant Solanum lycopericum L. lycopersicum to enhance the tomato prospects and also serve a preliminary investigation to be adopted in other agronomic important crops.

Hydrogen sulfide induces systemic tolerance to salinity and non-ionic osmotic stress in strawberry plants through modification of reactive species biosynthesis and transcriptional regulation of multiple defence pathways

TLDR
H2S-pretreated plants managed to overcome the deleterious effects of salt and non-ionic osmotic stress by controlling oxidative and nitrosative cellular damage through increased performance of antioxidant mechanisms and the coordinated regulation of the SOS pathway, thus proposing a novel role for H2S in plant priming, and in particular in a fruit crop such as strawberry.
