AIMS The aim of this study was to evaluate the current short-term (<3 months) complication rate related to cardiac rhythm management (CRM) device implantations. METHODS AND RESULTS We analysed data of the complications related to all CRM device implantations during 1 year (2006) in a tertiary referral university hospital. In 567 device implantations, pacing system upgrade procedures, or lead revisions, 78 complications occurred in 69 (12.2%) patients. Lead dislodgement, pocket haematoma or…

TLDR
Cardiac resynchronisation therapy implantation was the procedure with the highest risk of complications requiring surgical revision and was associated with substantial clinical consequences and a significant increase in the number and length of hospitalizations.

TLDR
Hospital annual PPM volume was directly related to indication-based implantation of relatively more complex PPM and yet inversely with procedural times and rates of early surgical complications and lead dislocations, suggesting better performance and lower complications with increasing procedural volume.
Pneumothorax as a complication of cardiac rhythm management devices implantation
TLDR
Pneumothorax is a relatively rare complication of CRM device implantation, and cephalic vein cut-down should be preferred to subclavian or axillary vein puncture as venous access, axillary veins puncture should not be avoided when cep Halic vein cannot be found or used, and in the case of difficult vein punctures, contrast venography should be done immediately, before risky punctures.
Utilization and in-hospital complications of cardiac resynchronization therapy: trends in the United States from 2003 to 2013
TLDR
From 2003 to 2013, the severity of comorbid conditions increased and a rising trend was observed in the rate of periprocedural complications among patients undergoing CRT in the United States.
Lead-related complications after DDD pacemaker implantation.
TLDR
Atrial lead position was a predictive factor for lead dislodgement, while age at implantation, polyurethane 80A insulation, subclavian vein access, unipolar lead construction, and lead manufacturer were multivariate predictors of lead failure.

TLDR
There are no generally accepted norms of complication rates in pacemaker surgery and it is found that two small pacemaker centres with 30 and 80 annual operations, respectively, have no indications that their centres have a rate of complications that is unacceptably high.
Safety of cardiac resynchronization device implantation — retrospective analysis from high-volume centre
TLDR
Overall, implantations of CRT devices are burdened with a substantial risk of complications, although the majority of them are minor and do not require subsequent surgical intervention.

TLDR
The results demonstrate that sensitive data such as complications related to pacemaker implantations can be collected on a national basis and suggest that a reoperation rate higher than 3% for atrial as well as ventricular pacing electrodes in the individual implanting centre should cause the centre to evaluate carefully the procedure as wellAs the performance of theindividual implanter.
Long term complications in single and dual chamber pacing are influenced by surgical experience and patient morbidity
TLDR
Operation time and complication rate increased with age, impaired LV function, and RV dilatation, and were excessive among inexperienced but not experienced operators.
Risk Factors Related to Infections of Implanted Pacemakers and Cardioverter-Defibrillators: Results of a Large Prospective Study
TLDR
This study identified several factors of risk of device infection and confirmed the efficacy of antibiotic prophylaxis in recipients of new or replacement pacemakers or implantable cardioverter-defibrillators.

TLDR
This large prospective multicentre study identified six variables as independent predictors for serious in-hospital events after first pacemaker implantation, which may assist the implanting cardiologist and surgeon to identify patients at higher risk, during and immediately after PM implantation.
Complications Related to Permanent Pacemaker Therapy
TLDR
A great majority (68%) of the complications occurred within the first 3 months after the implantation, and complications associated to modern permanent endocardial pacemaker therapy are not in‐frequent.
Pocket hematoma after pacemaker or implantable cardioverter defibrillator surgery: influence of patient morbidity, operation strategy, and perioperative antiplatelet/anticoagulation therapy.
TLDR
The use of high-dose heparinization and combined ASA/thienopyridine treatment are highly predictive for the occurrence of intraoperative bleeding and pocket hematoma in patients who have undergone pacemaker and ICD surgery.
Prospective Study of Axillary Vein Puncture with or Without Contrast Venography for Pacemaker and Defibrillator Lead Implantation
TLDR
Non‐contrast guided puncture using a new radiological landmark was successful in a majority of patients, and may be useful in absence of ipsilateral peripheral vein access, or presence of contrast allergy.
Permanent Pacing Lead Insertion Through the Cephalic Vein Using an Hydrophilic Guidewire
TLDR
The use of an HGW allows the insertion of a pacing lead through the CV in the great majority of patients in whom direct introduction and the use of a standard guidewire had failed.
Selective site ventricular pacing
TLDR
The evidence for selective site pacing holds promise in attempting to reduce the problems associated with chronic ventricular pacing, focusing mainly on the right ventricular outflow tract.
