MANY theories have been proposed to explain the climatic fluctuations which produced the sequence of glacial–interglacial periods of the order of tens of thousands of years which have occurred throughout the Quaternary. These fluctuations represent temperature changes in the temperate regions of about 6 °C between a glacial and an interglacial situation. There are also climatic fluctuations with a period of the order of about a thousand years representing temperature changes of about 2 °C…
Reconstructing Climatic and Environmental Changes of the Past 1000 Years: A Reappraisal
The 1000-year climatic and environmental history of the Earth contained in various proxy records is examined. As indicators, the proxies duly represent or record aspects of local climate. Questions
Isotope climatic record over the last 2.5 ka from Dome C, Antarctica, ice cores
Data on climatic changes over thousands of years is needed for a better understanding of the shorter term variations which are of interest to man. For this purpose we measured the isotope composition
The climate of the last 2000 years in southern Africa
Until recently, relatively little was known of the exact nature of climatic change in southern Africa over the past two millennia. New research based on oxygen isotope analyses of cave speleothems
Proxy climatic and environmental changes of the past 1000 years
The 1000 yr climatic and environmental history of the Earth contained in various proxy records is reviewed. As indicators, the proxies duly represent local climate. Because each is of a different
Quaternary environmental change in New Zealand: a review
The discovery that orbital variations are the driving force behind Quaternary climate change provides an impetus to set local and regional records of environmental change into the global context, a

Pacific archaeologists, geographers, and other social scientists have long used a model of Late Holocene climate change based largely on other regions of the world. In highlatitude regions, two major
Diatom Evidence for Late Holocene Climatic Events in Granite Harbor, Antarctica
Downcore diatom data from a deep basin in Granite Harbor, Antarctica, provide new, high-resolution information concerning changes in oceanographic and depositional processes that have occurred during
Late Holocene depositional episodes in coastal New Zealand
TLDR
During the Late Holocene, three quarters of the forest cover was progressively cleared by burning, but there was no apparent correlation with increased instability in sand dune areas, so the depositional episodes are considered to be independent of human influence.
Documentary evidence of climate variability during cold seasons in Lesotho, southern Africa, 1833–1900
This study presents the first 19th century cold season climate chronology for the Kingdom of Lesotho in southern Africa. The chronology is constructed using a variety of documentary sources including
Global Climatic Trends as Revealed by the Recorded Data (Paper 6R0330)
Recent results from climate models have led to the prediction that a global warming due to increasing atmospheric CO2 is now imminent, if it has not already occurred. In an effort to develop more
