In recent years, pollution in large areas of land by heavy metals and chemicals has become a major concern. The discharge of these effluents would also change the physico – chemical characteristics of the soil in turn results in decreased soil microbial activity and soil fertility, and yield losses. The presence of distinguishing pollutants not only affects the soil edaphic characters but also the ecosystem. The Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometry was used to analyze soils from Ketaren Gwari… Expand

Seasonal variations of heavy metals concentrations and pollution assessment of major dumpsites in Ilisan-Remo, Nigeria
Background: Globally, natural and anthropogenic activities have led to soil pollution resulting in physiological and health challenges on environment, plants, animals, and humans. The present studyExpand
Municipal solid waste dumping and its impact on soil quality in Karachi
In this study, the surface soil samples (n=12) were randomly collected from both the waste dump and the non dumpsites (control). The characterization of Municipal Solid Waste (MSW) at dumpsitesExpand
Impact Assessment of Contamination Pattern of Solid Waste Dumpsites Soil: A Comparative Study of Bauchi Metropolis
Soils samples from four different dumpsites namely Makama Housing Estate (MHE), Gwallaga (GW), Rafin Makaranta (RM), and Yelwa Makaranta (YM) in Bauchi metropolis were collected and analysed for someExpand
Seasonal variations in trace metal levels, speciation and physicochemical determinants of metal availability in dumpsite soils within Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria
Physicochemical properties, total metals and metal species were investigated in surface soil samples from six urban dumpsites within Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria. Results obtained indicated that Pb, CdExpand

The Pb, Cu, Zn, Fe, Mn and Cd contents in roadside soils and grass from 36 sites on the Island of Hong Kong were determined by atomic absorption spectrometry. Results showed that both soil and grassExpand
Characteristics of Soils and Crops’ Uptake of Metals in Municipal Waste Dump Sites in Nigeria
TLDR
To minimize heavy metal load of soils in dump sites, sorting of wastes at source, provision of an enabling statutory regulation on waste management, and the enforcement of the compliance of such statutory regulation to be the responsibility of a unit of the Health Department, in the Local Government Council are suggested. The deposition of lead, cadmium, zinc and copper from motor traffic on brachiaria enimi and soil along a major bombo road in Kampala city
The soil and whole plants of Brachiaria enimi were collected beside a major road (Bombo road) and digested with a mixture of concentrated nitric acid, and perchloric acid. The analysis of the soilExpand
Transport of heavy metals in surface runoff from vegetable and citrus fields
Heavy metal accumulation in agricultural soils increases export potential of the metals to the environment. The concentrations of dissolved heavy metals (Cd, Co, Cr, Cu, Fe, Ni, Pb, Zn, Mn, and Mo)Expand

HPTLC ANALYSIS OF STRESS INDUCED METABOLITES IN A. TERREUS FROM POLLUTED SITES
TLDR
Aspergillus was found to be the dominant genus occurring amongst the diversified mycoflora that have been identified, and various stress adaptive mechanisms whose semiquantitaive production of varied analytes was observed in HPTLC profiling. Expand
Chemical properties of urban waste ash produced by open burning on the Jos Plateau: implications for agriculture.
TLDR
This study sought to provide some preliminary data on urban waste ash produced by open burning and used in farming in a developing country, and found that ash is an effective liming material, and has the potential to contribute significant quantities of micro-nutrients such as Mn, Zn and Cu. Expand
