Shifting Genetic Composition of Largemouth Bass Populations in Dendritic Arms of Two Large Arkansas Reservoirs Through Stocking of Florida Largemouth Bass
@inproceedings{Lamothe2013ShiftingGC, title={Shifting Genetic Composition of Largemouth Bass Populations in Dendritic Arms of Two Large Arkansas Reservoirs Through Stocking of Florida Largemouth Bass}, author={Karl A. Lamothe}, year={2013} }
The Arkansas Game and Fish Commission has been annually stocking Florida largemouth bass (FLMB, Micropterus salmoides floridanus) at rates of 250 fish ha–1 into small dendritic sections of two large Arkansas reservoirs, Lake DeGray and Lake Ouachita, since 2006 and 2007, respectively, to alter local pre-existent northern largemouth bass (NLMB, Micropterus s. salmoides) populations. The management goal for these actions is to have 40% of the local largemouth bass (LMB) population possessing FLMB…

- Environmental ScienceJournal of the Arkansas Academy of Science
- 2013
Samples between 2006 and 2011 have been combined, and LMB heavier than 2,268 g (5 lb) were analyzed in an effort to investigate distribution of bass by their genetic composition designated as trophy LMB by the AGFC.
Stocking for a trophy bass fishery: searching for size differences among largemouth bass and hybrids in southern Arkansas reservoirs
- Environmental Science
- 2016
From a fisheries management perspective, introducing FB outside its native range remains a controversial issue, and long-term controlled studies are needed in Arkansas to better resolve size differences observed among FB, NLMB, and their hybrids.

Persistence of Florida largemouth bass alleles in a northern Arkansas population of largemouth bass, Micropterus salmoides Lacèpéde
- Environmental Science
- 1999
It was demonstrated that temperature is not selective at present against bass possessing Florida largemouth bass alleles, however, caution should prevail when introducing non-native stock into native gene complexes, as introduced genes persist through many generations.
Factors Regulating Florida Largemouth Bass Stocking Success and Hybridization with Northern Largemouth Bass in Aquilla Lake, Texas
- Environmental Science, Biology
- 1988
Electrophoretically assayed four enzyme-encoding loci in, and determined the ages of, 1,534 largemouth bass Micropterus salmoides colleted from a new Texas reservoir over a 41-month period to evaluate stocking success and subsequent hybridization of the Florida subspecies M. s.

Abstract Differential performance of genetic strains of largemouth bass Micropterus salmoides is an important management consideration. In Puerto Rico, largemouth bass are widely stocked without…

Allele frequencies indicated that of 37 trophy bass donated to the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department between 2004 and 2005, all had more than 50% Florida largemouth bass influence with ancestry genetically similar to that of populations sampled in western Florida.
Distribution of Age-0 Largemouth Bass in Relation to Shoreline Landscape Features
- Environmental Science
- 1997
Relations between landscape features and the littoral distribution of young largemouth bass Micropterus salmoides were determined for 43 contiguous sections along the entire 8-km shoreline of an unvegetated embayment in B. E. Jordan Lake, North Carolina, indicating that cover may be limiting late in the year, coin...
Using genotype simulations and Bayesian analyses to identify individuals of hybrid origin in Australian bass: lessons for fisheries management
- Environmental Science
- 2008
Simulated genotypes, Bayesian analyses and molecular genetic data were used to detect individuals of hybrid origin and hybrid introgression between the Australian bass and estuary perch and 93% of the hybrids up to three generations later could be distinguished from the Australianbass.
A Review of Fish Control Projects
- Environmental Science, Engineering
- 1996
Fish control treatments were divided into four categories: chemical applications, physical removal and reservoir drawdowns, stocking of fish, and any combination of chemical and physical methods, which judged the success of fish control projects.
Genesis of Bimodal Size Distributions in Species Cohorts
- Environmental Science
- 1982
A partial-differential-equation model is used to corroborate the hypothesis that such bimodality can be generated when available prey is a function of time and of size of the fish in the cohort.
