• Ectomycorrhizal infection of Quercus seedlings can be low at a distance from established ectomycorrhizal vegetation. Here we investigate whether Helianthemum bicknellii , a herbaceous ectomycorrhizal perennial of prairies and oak savannas, creates patches of elevated ectomycorrhizal infection of Quercus seedlings. • We performed two studies.
