Abstract Aim:  Several factors having an influence on the quality of life after an inguinal hernia repair have been studied, yet little has been reported on sexual function before and after this operation.

Inguinal hernia surgery positively affects sexual functions compared to the preoperative period and the improvement in sexual parameters in addition to the benefits of hernia removal and presence of no significant postoperative complications indicates that this surgery is useful and safe.

What Is the Effect of Inguinal Hernia Operations on Sexual Functions?

Evaluating sexual function before and after inguinal hernia surgery using a standard, internationally approved, patient-administered questionnaire found a statistically significant difference in terms of erectile function, sexual desire, intercourse function, and overall satisfaction.

Impact of Ilio-inguinal Nerve Excision on Sexual Function in Open Inguinal Hernia Mesh Repair: a Prospective Follow-up Study

Neurectomy of the ilio-inguinal nerve during surgical repair of inguinal hernia could have a favourable influence on sexual function without relevant complications and it is recommended especially for patients with pre-operative sexual dysfunction due to the groin hernia.

Sexual function after Stoppa hernia repair in patients with bilateral inguinal hernia

Bilateral inguinal mesh repair with Stoppa technique can decreased sexual activity of the patients at one month after surgery, nevertheless it returns to its initial condition at 6 months after surgery to suggest that the StoppA technique does not affect the sexual function of patients with bilateral inguINAL hernia.

Beneficial effect of inguinal hernioplasty on testicular perfusion and sexual function

Inguinal hernia impaired testicular perfusion that improved postoperatively, and Lichtenstein tension-free hernioplasty improved sexual function and generic quality of life without adverse mesh effects on testicular volume or perfusion.

Impairment of sexual activity before and after endoscopic totally extraperitoneal (TEP) hernia repair

Painful sexual activity, present in one third of patients with inguinal hernias, improved in the majority of patients following TEP hernia repair, and the preoperative presence of pain during sexual activity and chronic non-hernia-related pain syndromes were predictive for the occurrence of postoperative pain.

The Relevance of Sexual Dysfunction Related to Groin Pain After Inguinal Hernia Repair – The SexIHQ Short Form Questionnaire Assessment

A short form questionnaire, suitable for large cohorts, was developed to assess sexual dysfunction due to groin pain after inguinal hernia repair in male patients, and quality-of-life was reduced in almost all SF-36 domains in patients with pain during sexual activity.

Chronic pain and quality of life following open inguinal hernia repair

The aim was to determine the frequency and characteristics of chronic pain following open inguinal hernia repair and to identify risk factors for its development.

Pain after groin hernia repair

The purpose of the study was to provide a detailed description of postoperative pain after elective day‐case open inguinal hernia repair under local anaesthesia.

"Tension-free" inguinal herniorrhaphy: a preliminary report on the "mesh plug" technique.

Compared with conventional sutured surgical techniques, a plug repair uses less overall dissection and ensures a "tension-free" hernioplasty and lessened overall complication rates with the mesh hernia plug technique.

Complications de la chirurgie herniaire

Les complications sont relativement rares en chirurgie classique ou les difficultes et les pieges sont repertories depuis longtemps; the liste en est cependant longue and merite d'etre rappelee.
