Abstract Aim:  Several factors having an influence on the quality of life after an inguinal hernia repair have been studied, yet little has been reported on sexual function before and after this operation.
Does inguinal hernia repair have an effect on sexual functions?
TLDR
Inguinal hernia surgery positively affects sexual functions compared to the preoperative period and the improvement in sexual parameters in addition to the benefits of hernia removal and presence of no significant postoperative complications indicates that this surgery is useful and safe. Expand
Impact of Ilio-inguinal Nerve Excision on Sexual Function in Open Inguinal Hernia Mesh Repair: a Prospective Follow-up Study
TLDR
Neurectomy of the ilio-inguinal nerve during surgical repair of inguinal hernia could have a favourable influence on sexual function without relevant complications and it is recommended especially for patients with pre-operative sexual dysfunction due to the groin hernia. Expand
Recovery of sexual function after scrotal hernia repair.
TLDR
This study showed that scrotal hernia repair caused a positive impact on sexual function after surgery, and all of the 5 sexual function domains except the orgasm domain presented statistically significant improvement. Expand
Sexual function after Stoppa hernia repair in patients with bilateral inguinal hernia
TLDR
Bilateral inguinal mesh repair with Stoppa technique can decreased sexual activity of the patients at one month after surgery, nevertheless it returns to its initial condition at 6 months after surgery to suggest that the StoppA technique does not affect the sexual function of patients with bilateral inguINAL hernia. Expand
Beneficial effect of inguinal hernioplasty on testicular perfusion and sexual function
TLDR
Inguinal hernia impaired testicular perfusion that improved postoperatively, and Lichtenstein tension-free hernioplasty improved sexual function and generic quality of life without adverse mesh effects on testicular volume or perfusion. Expand
Impairment of sexual activity before and after endoscopic totally extraperitoneal (TEP) hernia repair
TLDR
Painful sexual activity, present in one third of patients with inguinal hernias, improved in the majority of patients following TEP hernia repair, and the preoperative presence of pain during sexual activity and chronic non-hernia-related pain syndromes were predictive for the occurrence of postoperative pain. Expand
Pain related sexual dysfunction after inguinal herniorrhaphy
TLDR
Pain during sexual activity and subsequent sexual dysfunction represent a clinically significant problem in about 3% of younger male patients with a previous inguinal herniorrhaphy, and intraoperative nerve damage and disposition to other chronic pain conditions are among the most likely pathogenic factors. Expand
The Relevance of Sexual Dysfunction Related to Groin Pain After Inguinal Hernia Repair – The SexIHQ Short Form Questionnaire Assessment
TLDR
A short form questionnaire, suitable for large cohorts, was developed to assess sexual dysfunction due to groin pain after inguinal hernia repair in male patients, and quality-of-life was reduced in almost all SF-36 domains in patients with pain during sexual activity. Expand
Sexual impairment due to mesh plug hernia repair?
TLDR
The potential of sexual dysfunction after mesh plug repair is emphasized and reduced but persisting symptoms can be explained by fibrosis or twisting of the vas deferens. Expand
Pain during sexual activity and ejaculation following hernia repair: A retrospective comparison of transabdominal preperitoneal versus Lichtenstein repair
TLDR
The lower rates of post‐operative dysejaculation and pain during sexual activity can be achieved with the advantage of laparoscopic surgery. Expand

Outcome of patients with severe chronic pain following repair of groin hernia
TLDR
The aim of this study was to assess the outcome of patients who report severe or very severe pain 3 months after groin hernia repair. Expand
Sexual function and testicular perfusion after inguinal hernia repair with mesh.
TLDR
Sexual function recovered spontaneously within 12 months postoperatively in 6 patients and showed no changes after inguinal hernia repair in the plug and patch technique, suggesting there is no evidence for a significant impairment of the cord structures and the sexual function. Expand

TLDR
Plug and patch repair of unilateral inguinal hernia improves quality of life with a very low rate of procedural complications and freedom from pain, vitality, and physical activity there is significant improvement as compared to preoperatively. Expand
