In dioecious plants of hemp (Cannabis sativa L.), males are regarded as heterogametic XY and females as homogametic XX, although it is difficult to discriminate the X cytologically from the Y. The Y chromosome is somewhat larger than the X. Our aim was to analyse AFLP markers on X and Y, and to use them to gain some insight into the structure of the sex chromosomes. Markers located on the sex chromosomes can be grouped into different classes, depending on the presence or absence of a fragment…

Molecular Cytogenetic Characterization of the Dioecious Cannabis sativa with an XY Chromosome Sex Determination System

The molecular cytogenetic study of the C. sativa sex chromosomes is a starting point for helping to make C. sitiva a promising model to study sex chromosome evolution.

Sex chromosomes and quantitative sex expression in monoecious hemp (Cannabis sativa L.)

Assessing the genotypic variability of its sex expression and establishing its sex chromosomes strongly support that cultivars of monoecious hemp have the XX constitution and that their sex expression has a genetic basis.

Identification of QTLs for sex expression in dioecious and monoecious hemp (Cannabis sativa L.)

The role of sex chromosomes in the genetic determinism of sex expression in dioecious and monoecious hemp is investigated and five sex-linked markers were detected in UF, revealing homologies between the X chromosomes of monoeciously hemp and the X and Y chromosomes of dioemious hemp.

RAPD markers encoding retrotransposable elements are linked to the male sex in Cannabis sativa L.

The gel-blot analysis and fluorescence in situ hybridization results presented here support the hypothesis that accumulation of retrotransposable elements on the Y chromosome might be 1 cause of heteromorphism of sex chromosomes.

Sex‐linked SSR markers in hemp

Three alleles were detected for two SSR markers indicating polymorphism not only between X and Y, but also between different X chromosomes, and several sex-linked RAPD markers were detected in one population.

Accumulation of Y-specific satellite DNAs during the evolution of Rumex acetosa sex chromosomes

The data support the idea that Y-chromosome differentiation and heterochromatinisation in the Rumex species having a multiple sex chromosome system have occurred by different amplification events from a common ancestral satDNA.

Validation of a male‐linked gene locus (OGI) for sex identification in persimmon (Diospyros kaki Thunb.) and its application in F1 progeny

The results indicated that the OGI locus could be used to distinguish male from female persimmon plants at an early stage.

Development of sex-linked AFLP markers in Simmondsia chinensis: Development of sex-linked AFLP markers

In the present study, sex-linked DNA markers have been identified in S. chinensis using the AFLP technique and SCAR markers developed from these sex-specific markers will provide an effective and reliable method for sex identification.

Short Communication Development of sex-linked AFLP markers in Simmondsia chinensis

In the present study, sex-linked DNA markers have been identified in S. chinensis using the AFLP technique and SCAR markers developed from these sex-specific markers will provide an effective and reliable method for sex identification.

Isolation and development of a molecular sex marker for Bassiana duperreyi, a lizard with XX/XY sex chromosomes and temperature-induced sex reversal

This work reports the isolation of Y chromosome DNA sequence from B. duperreyi using amplified fragment length polymorphism PCR, the conversion of that sequence to a single-locus assay, and its combination with asingle-copy nuclear gene (C-mos) to form a duplex PCR test for chromosomal sex.

Identification of DNA markers linked to the male sex in dioecious hemp (Cannabis sativa L.)

A 400-bp RAPD marker generated by a primer of random decamer sequence has been found associated with the male sex phenotype in 14 dioecious cultivars and accessions of hemp and is suitable for a precise, early and rapid identification of male plants during breeding programs of dIOecious and monoecious hemp.

Characterization; Genome Sizes and Morphology of Sex Chromosomes in Hemp (Cannabis sativa L.).

Results indicate that the Y chromosome, especially in its long arm, specifically differentiates in Cannabis sativa and might contribute to the sex determination.

Sex determination in Actinidia. 1. Sex-linked markers and progeny sex ratio in diploid A. chinensis

Results from two strategies aimed at elucidating the genetics of sex in the dioecious genus Actinidia Lindl.

Site-specific accumulation of a LINE-like retrotransposon in a sex chromosome of the dioecious plant Cannabis sativa

The hypothesis that accumulation of a specific LINE-like retrotransposon at the terminal region of the long arm of the Y chromosome might be one cause of heteromorphism of sex chromosomes is supported.

A pseudoautosomal random amplified polymorphic DNA marker for the sex chromosomes of Silene dioica.

The segregation pattern of an 810-bp random amplified polymorphic DNA (RAPD) band in the F1 and backcross generations of a Silene dioica (L.) Clairv. family provides evidence that this molecular

A genetic map of Asparagus officinalis based on integrated RFLP, RAPD and AFLP molecular markers

An integrated genetic map of the dioecious species Asparagus officinalis L. has been constructed on the basis of RFLP, RAPD, AFLP and isoenzyme markers and the closest marker to the sex determinant is the AFLP SV marker.

Application of AFLP for the detection of sex-specific markers in hemp

The abundant number of potential markers for the male sex, their complete cosegregation with male plants and the absence of marker for the female sex support the presence of a male sex chromosome in hemp.

An X-linked gene with a degenerate Y-linked homologue in a dioecious plant

It is shown that a gene encoding a male-specific protein is linked to the X chromosome in the dioecious plant Silene latifolia, and that it has a degenerate homologue in the non-pairing region of the Y chromosome.

Identification of a RAPD marker linked to sex determination in Pistacia vera using bulked segregant analysis

The OPO08945 RAPD marker could be used in a breeding program to screen the gender of pistachio plants long before they reach reproductive maturity, resulting in considerable savings of time and economic resources.

Male and female genetic linkage map of hops, Humulus lupulus.
