Abstract This study, which is based on two cross sectional surveys' data, aims to establish any effect of parental obesity sex distribution of offspring and to replicate the results that led to the hypothesis that obesity may be associated with sex-linked recessive lethal gene. A representative sample of 4,064 couples living in Renfrew/Paisley, Scotland was surveyed 1972–1976. A total of 2,338 offspring from 1,477 of the couples screened in 1972–1976, living in Paisley, were surveyed in 1996…

Human semen quality and the secondary sex ratio

This preconception cohort study suggests no clear signal that human semen quality is associated with offspring sex determination, and only the percentage of bicephalic sperm was significantly associated with the SSR.

Sex ratio of the offspring of New Zealand phenoxy herbicide producers exposed to 2,3,7,8-tetrachlorodibenzo-p-dioxin

It is indicated that paternal serum TCDD concentrations in excess of an estimated 20 pg/g lipid at time of conception are associated with a reduced sex ratio.

Firstborn offspring sex ratio is skewed towards female offspring in anesthesia care providers: A questionnaire-based nationwide study from United States

It can be concluded that anesthesia care providers who practice inhalation induction of anesthesia during the peri-conceptional period are significantly more likely to have firstborn female offspring.

Offspring sex ratio in women with android body fat distribution.

It was found that women with a higher waist-to-hip ratio tended to have more sons than daughters and women who reported greater ease of having multiple orgasms also tended toHave more sons more than daughters.

Maternal waist-to-hip ratio does not predict child gender

Differences in attractiveness preferences between different ethic groups are actually based on weight scaled for height (the body mass index or BMI) rather than the WHR since although there will be a preferred optimal BMI for each ethnic group, which will balance environmental and health factors, this optimal BMI may differ between groups and environments.

Women's waists and the sex ratio of their progeny: evolutionary aspects of the ideal female body shape

Abstract There is some evidence that testosterone levels in women are correlated with a tendency to produce sons. We show that in a sample of 102 women, aged from 35–55 years, components of female

Intergenerational 20 year trends in the prevalence of asthma and hay fever in adults: the Midspan family study surveys of parents and offspring

The prevalence of asthma in adults has increased more than twofold in 20 years, largely in association with trends in atopy, as measured indirectly by the prevalence of hay fever.

Experimental demonstration that offspring sex ratio varies with maternal condition.

Experimental evidence is provided of an adaptive, facultative adjustment of sex ratio in response to changes in maternal condition in wild birds, which is commonly tested in wild populations.

Sex Chromosome Genetics '99. The X chromosome and recurrent spontaneous abortion: the significance of transmanifesting carriers.

A case-control study compares the frequency of highly skewed X chromosome inactivation in women with two or more unexplained spontaneous abortions to the frequency in female controls, and acquired skewing of X-chromosome inactivation patterns in myeloid cells of the elderly suggests stochastic clonal loss with age.

Sex Ratio Variation in Mammals

Valid evidence that sex ratio trends are adaptive must be based on the overall distribution of trends or on cases in which the sex ratio can be shown to vary with the relative fitness of producing sons and daughters.

Population density affects sex ratio variation in red deer

It is shown that the adaptive relationship between maternal dominance and offspring sex ratio previously demonstrated in red deer, where dominant females produced more males, disappeared at high population density.

The Human Obesity Gene Map: The 2005 Update

The 12th update of the human obesity gene map is presented, which incorporates published results up to the end of October 2005, and shows putative loci on all chromosomes except Y.
