Rhabdomyolysis is a potential complication of psychotropic drugs use and may potentially lead to life-threatening complications, such as an acute renal failure. We describe the case of a 40-year-old military soldier suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder was admitted for an adaptation of his treatment. Mirtazapine was introduced and quetiapine increased. Two days later, the patient presented with severe rhabdomyolysis syndrome. Mirtazapine administration was paused and intravenous… Expand
Possible exercised-induced rhabdomyolysis associated with terbinafine
Patients may be at risk for exercise-induced rhabdomyolysis while on terbinafine and may need to be cautioned regarding the intensity of exercise. Expand
Olanzapine-Associated Rhabdomyolysis: A Case Report
The presented case demonstrates that pharmacogenetic‐guided personalization of treatment may allow selecting the best medication and determining the right dosage, resulting in the reduced risk of adverse drug reactions and pharmacoresistance. Expand
Quetiapine-Associated Rhabdomyolysis: A Case Report and Literature Review.
It is believed that applying the stepwise approach above will help better serve patients taking clozapine, both to increase rates of tobacco cessation and to reduce incidence of decompensation secondary to the tobacco-clozAPine interaction. Expand
Expand

Comment on: Low-Dose Quetiapine-Induced Severe Rhabdomyolysis
This is the first case to describe rhabdomyolysis in a quetiapine-treated patient with chronic kidney disease taking therapeutic dosage, and the new generation antipsychotics (NGAs) are frequently prescribed as first-line drugs in the treatment of psychotic and mood disorders. Expand
Antipsychotic Use and the Risk of Rhabdomyolysis
Antipsychotic use is a risk factor for rhabdomyolysis and seems to be more common in those taking multiple agents, and more research needs to be done to determine which antipsychotics have a higher risk and which receptors are involved. Expand
Rhabdomyolysis: An Evaluation of 475 Hospitalized Patients
Exogenous toxins were the most common cause of rhabdomyolysis, with illicit drugs, alcohol, and prescribed drugs responsible for 46%. Expand
Severe creatine kinase increase during quetiapine and mirtazapine treatment
This letter would like to present a case in which there was a massive increase in serum CK levels together with relatively modest increases in serum CJB levels during quetiapine and mirtazapine treatment, without the presence of neuroleptic malignant syndrome (NMS). Expand
Marked Elevations of Serum Creatine Kinase Activity Associated with Antipsychotic Drug Treatment
The objective of this study was to characterize the SCK increases in patients treated with novel antipsychotic drugs, which were much larger than the increases usually found in acutely psychotic patients or patients with neuroleptic malignant syndrome. Expand
Expand
Mirtazapine: An Antidepressant with Noradrenergic and Specific Serotonergic Effects
Mirtazapine has an onset of clinical effect in 2–4 weeks similar to other antidepressants, although sleep disturbances and anxiety symptoms may improve in the first week of treatment, and essentially lacks serotonergic effects such as gastrointestinal symptoms, insomnia, and sexual dysfunction. Expand
Serotonin accumulation by skeletal muscle
It is suggested that serotonin transport into skeletal muscle is mediated via passive diffusion followed by tissue binding, and the notion that the myopathy produced by serotonin plus membrane-active drugs may be mediated by the action of serotonin upon the sarcolemma or upon the skeletal muscle vasculature in combination with the membrane action of imipramine and chlorpheniramine upon skeletal muscle membranes.
