Background: In the late 19th and early 20th century there was much interest in understanding the reactions to diphtheria antitoxin and the horse serum in which it was produced and administered. Objective: Pirquet and Schick reported on their studies of these reactions; particularly the differences in the reaction of those patients who had only one injection, and those who had a re-injection. Conclusion: Pirquet and Schick concluded that “due to a single injection of horse serum a change takes…

Figures from this paper

Serum Sickness following Tetanus Toxoid Injection
TLDR
A case of 6-year-old girl who developed a rash and arthralgia after being vaccinated with tetanus toxoid injection after a cut wound is described.
ANTISERUM PRODUCTION IN IMMUNIZED CAMEL BY THE VENOM OF HEMISCORPIUS LEPTURUS SCORPION: EVALUATION OF NEUTRALIZING TEST IN VIVO
TLDR
Camel antiserum against scorpion venom is capable to neutralize the crude venom in mice model and due to the safety of camel serum in human, it is suggested that the produced antisersum in camel can be substitute with the traditional horse antiserums in scorpion stung patients.
Rituximab-Induced Serum Sickness-Like Reaction: A Histopathologic Viewpoint.
TLDR
A 33-year-old woman on rituximab for thrombotic thromBocytopenic purpura and who presented with an urticarial rash with associated fever and arthralgia that developed 1 week after treatment is described.
Serum sickness after treatment with rabbit antithymocyte globulin in kidney transplant recipients with previous rabbit exposure.
TLDR
Patients with previous exposure to rabbits who developed serum sickness after primary rabbit antithymocyte globulin induction are described, and Jaw pain appears to be a hallmark symptom, and treatment with plasmapheresis and steroids relieve symptoms more rapidly than steroids alone.
Serum sickness reaction to obinutuzumab in a patient with chronic lymphocytic leukaemia
TLDR
A patient with CLL who developed maculopapular rash, fever and polyarthritis and elevated inflammatory markers consistent with serum sickness triggered by obinutuzumab and was effectively treated with corticosteroids is presented.
Serum sickness‐like drug reaction: two cases with a neutrophilic urticarial pattern
TLDR
Skin biopsy findings in two cases of SSLR showed a neutrophil‐predominant urticarial pattern resembling neutrophilic urticaria or neutrophobic urticarian dermatosis, and a summary of the histopathologic findings that can help support a diagnosis ofSSLR is provided.
Fungal hypersensitivity: pathophysiology, diagnosis, therapy.
Dupilumab‐induced serum sickness‐like reaction: an unusual adverse effect in a patient with atopic eczema
TLDR
A patient with atopic eczema who developed serum sickness like reaction (SSLR) under therapy with dupilumab is reported upon.
“Urticaria Multiforme”: A Case Series and Review of Acute Annular Urticarial Hypersensitivity Syndromes in Children
TLDR
The term “urticaria multiforme” is proposed as a more apt description to highlight the distinctive clinical features of this urticaria variant.
Serum Sickness after Equine Rabies Immunoglobulin in Identical Male Twins: Two Case Reports
