The cohort included 55 consecutive patients with first ST elevation acute myocardial infarction (STEAMI) who underwent reperfusion. Blood samples were drawn for N-terminal pro B-type natriuretic peptide (NT-proBNP), highly-sensitive C-reactive protein (hs-CRP), creatinine kinase (CK), cardiac troponin l (cTnl), and white blood cell (WBC) count within 24 hours of admission. Transthoracic echocardiography, performed within the same time frame, assessed left ventricular (LV) systolic function, as…
A Clinical Study of N-Terminal Pro- Brain Natriuretic Peptide as A Predictor of Prognosis in Acute St Segment Elevation Myocardial Infarction in Comparison with Left Ventricular Ejection Fraction
TLDR
NT-proBNP is a strong predictor of short term outcome in STEMI and better short term prognostic indicator than LVEF, and can be utilized as a good tool for risk stratification of acute MI patients so that appropriate treatment strategies could be planned.
Oxidative stress markers predict early left ventricular systolic dysfunction after acute myocardial infarction treated with primary percutaneous coronary intervention.

TLDR
It is shown for the first time that thiol groups and catalase are independent predictors of STEMI complication - LVSD and acute HF, respectively.

TLDR
Plasma N-terminal pro-brain natriuretic peptide measured later in hospitalization better predicts poor outcome following myocardial infarction than when it is measured in the immediate post infarctions period.
Rapid Determination of Brain Natriuretic Peptide in Patients with Acute Myocardial Infarction
TLDR
The sensitivity and specificity of BNP for predicting survival of patients over 1 year of follow-up was 100% and 43%, respectively, with a negative predictive value of 100%.

TLDR
The use of N‐terminal pro‐brain natriuretic peptide appears to add critical prognostic insight to the assessment of patients with ACS, and the combination of NT‐proBNP and creatinine clearance provided the best prediction.
Detection of left ventricular dysfunction after acute myocardial infarction: comparison of clinical, echocardiographic, and neurohormonal methods.
TLDR
Left ventricular dysfunction is easily and reliably detected by echocardiographic measurement of LVEF and also by a quick qualitative echOCardiographic assessment but is likely to be missed by clinical assessment alone.
The prognostic value of B-type natriuretic peptide in patients with acute coronary syndromes.
TLDR
A single measurement of B-type natriuretic peptide, obtained in the first few days after the onset of ischemic symptoms, provides powerful information for use in risk stratification across the spectrum of acute coronary syndromes, and suggests that cardiac neurohormonal activation may be a unifying feature among patients at high risk for death after acute coronary syndrome.

Utility of B-Natriuretic Peptide in Detecting Diastolic Dysfunction
TLDR
It is hypothesized that B-natriuretic peptide levels could predict diastolic abnormalities in patients with normal systolic function, and 294 patients referred for echocardiography were studied to evaluate ventricular function.
