A novel endophytic bacterium, strain J11-6T, was isolated from rice stems. Its taxonomic position was investigated using a polyphasic approach. The novel strain was Gram-staining-negative, facultatively anaerobic, motile and rod-shaped. Although the results of phylogenetic analysis based on 16S rRNA gene sequences indicated that J11-6T represented a member of the genus Rahnella, multilocus sequence analysis (MLSA) on the basis of concatenated partial atpD, gyrB, rpoB and infB gene sequences…

Figures and Tables from this paper

Serratia inhibens sp. nov., a new antifungal species isolated from potato (Solanum tuberosum).
The results of phenotypic, phylogenetic and genomic analyses support the hypothesis that strain S40T represents a novel species of the genus Serratia, for which the name Serratio inhibens sp.
Rouxiella aceris sp. nov., isolated from tree sap and the emended description of the genus Rouxiella.
The 16S rRNA gene-based phylogeny exhibited that the seven isolates formed two distinct sublines within the family Yersiniaceae, and showed that strains SAP-1T, SAP-7, SAP -8 and SAP-13 belonged to a new species of the genus Rouxiella, while strain SAP-2, SAP –3 and SAP -27 were strains of RouXiella silvae.
Rahnella aceris sp. nov., isolated from sap drawn from Acer pictum
The low average nucleotide identity and digital DNA relatedness values showed that the isolate can be considered a different genospecies, and strain SAP-19T represents a novel species of the genus Rahnella.
Rahnella laticis sp. nov. and Rahnella contaminans sp. nov., and emended description of the genus Rahnella.
Taxonomic positions of six isolates, which were recovered from two different environments in Jeju, Republic of Korea, were examined by a polyphasic analysis and it was shown that the isolates belonged to the genus Rahnella and formed three distinct sublines within the genus.
Genomic characterization of a pectinolytic isolate of Serratia oryzae isolated from lake water
The specific detection of enzyme activities confirmed that strain S32 secretes functional pectinases and that it also produces extracellular cellulase and protease activities, which shows that S. oryzae shares characteristics of plant associated bacteria, including phytopathogens.
Serratia microhaemolytica sp. nov., isolated from an artificial lake in Southern China
The phylogenomic dendrograms showed that strain ZS-11T formed a distinct cluster within the clade of the genus Serratia, which is considered to represent a new species of the species Serratio microhaemolytica sp.
Functional and molecular characterization of plant growth promoting bacteria associated with sugarcane cultivated in Tay Ninh Province, Vietnam
Bacteria associated with sugarcane were investigated characteristics of plant growth promotion and identified base on molecular characteristics and outstanding isolates were proposed to test the ability to promote Sugarcane growth.
Characterization of Serratia species and qualitative detection of Serratia marcescens in raw and pasteurized milk by an analytical method based on polymerase chain reaction
Serratia species are opportunistic pathogenic microorganisms primarily known as nosocomial infectious agents, which can also cause food quality problems. The appearance of the extracellular
Diversity and Taxonomic Distribution of Endophytic Bacterial Community in the Rice Plant and Its Prospective
This review discusses and explores the taxonomic distribution of endophytic bacteria associated with different genotypes of rice plants and their origin, movement, and mechanism of PGP, and retrieves their plant-growth-promoting properties and their antagonism against plant pathogens.
Detection of Diverse N-Acyl Homoserine Lactone Signalling Molecules Among Bacteria Associated with Rice Rhizosphere.
Diversity of diverse AHLs from different groups of rhizobacteria associated with rice indicates that these signalling molecules may be involved in the regulation ofrhizobacterial behaviour and symbiotic plant-microbe interactions.

Serratia aquatilis sp. nov., isolated from drinking water systems.
Multilocus sequence analysis (MLSA) on the basis of concatenated partial gyrB, rpoB, infB and atpD gene sequences showed a clear distinction of strain 2015-2462-01T from the type strains of the closest related Serratia species.
Kurthia huakuii sp. nov., isolated from biogas slurry, and emended description of the genus Kurthia.
Analysis of the 16S rRNA gene sequence revealed that strain LAM0618(T) was a member of the genus Kurthia, and was most closely related to 'Kurthia massiliensis' DSM 24639, Kurthia zopfii DSM 20580(T), Kurthia gibsonii DSM 20636 (T) and Kurthia sibirica DSM 4747(T).
Serratia species isolated from plants
Using the selective caprylate-thallous agar medium, the presence ofSerratia species was systematically examined in 623 plant samples. A total of 167Serratia strains was isolated from these plant
Serratia ficaria sp. nov., a bacterial species associated with Smyrna figs and the fig waspBlastophaga psenes
Fourteen strains isolated from figs, caprifigs, and fig wasps collected in California and Tunisia, and from a small black ant in France, constitute a new DNA hybridization group that constitutes a new species that is named Serratia ficaria sp.
Introducing EzTaxon-e: a prokaryotic 16S rRNA gene sequence database with phylotypes that represent uncultured species.
It is concluded that the EzTaxon-e database provides a useful taxonomic backbone for the identification of cultured and uncultured prokaryotes and offers a valuable means of communication among microbiologists who routinely encounter taxonomically novel isolates.
Numerical analysis of fatty acid patterns of coryneform bacteria and related taxa
A numerical study of the fatty acid patterns of 263 reference strains belonging to the genera Arthrobacter, Aureobacterium, Brevibacterium and Cellulomonas found that strains of the species Corynebacterium glutamicum, CoryneBacterium ammoniagenes, and Erysipelothrix rhusiopathiae could be found in distinct clusters, based on quantitative differ...
Genome-based phylogeny and taxonomy of the 'Enterobacteriales': proposal for Enterobacterales ord. nov. divided into the families Enterobacteriaceae, Erwiniaceae fam. nov., Pectobacteriaceae fam. nov., Yersiniaceae fam. nov., Hafniaceae fam. nov., Morganellaceae fam. nov., and Budviciaceae fam. nov.
The work presented here represents the first comprehensive, genome-scale taxonomic analysis of the entirety of the order 'Enterobacteriales', and a proposal is made here for the order Enterobacterales ord. nov. which consists of seven families.
Serratia glossinae Geiger et al. 2010 is a later synonym of Serratia fonticola Gavini et al. 1979.
Serratia glossinae as a later synonym of S. fonticola is proposed, based upon the estimated phylogenetic position derived from 16S rRNA gene sequence data, biochemical data and DNA-DNA hybridization results.

Quantitative studies on the intestinal bacterial flora of three neotropical bat species revealed the following average bacterial populations; a large intestine, cecum, or appendix was absent in all three bat species, and the intestinal length was one-third to one-fifth of that in a mouse of comparable weight.
