The parasites of genus Echinococcus are small cestodes (1-6 mm), which, according to the species, can be found in dogs (E. granulosus), small foxes, coyotes or wolves (E. multilocularis). In larval stage, they are etiological agents of human echinococcosis (hydatid disease or echinococcal disease). Diagnosing the hydatid infection is complex and requires multiple paraclinical, lab investigations and imaging techniques (X-ray, ultrasound, CT and MRI), which usually confirm the clinical suspicion… CONTINUE READING
