Serological and virologic surveillance of swine influenza in 19 provinces and cities in China was conducted from 2000 to 2003. The serological studies were carried out by hemagglutination inhibition (HI) assay using H1, H3, H5 andH9 subtype influenza viruses as antigens. The positive rates of H1 and H3 subtype influenza were 10.1% and 41.1%, respectively, from a total of 4212 samples.
