Abstract Water, sewage, and soil are potential sources of infection for Toxoplasma gondii. Therefore, we sought to determine the prevalence of T. gondii infection and associated characteristics in 61 plumbers, 203 construction workers, and 168 gardeners in Durango City, Mexico. Participants were tested for T. gondii IgG and IgM antibodies with the use of enzyme-linked immunoassays. In addition, sociodemographic, clinical, and behavioral characteristics from each participant were obtained. IgG T… Expand
Toxoplasma gondii infection in workers occupationally exposed to unwashed raw fruits and vegetables: a case control seroprevalence study
TLDR
This is the first report of seroprevalence and contributing factors for Toxoplasma infection in workers occupationally exposed to unwashed raw fruits and vegetables, and the results may help in the design of optimal preventive measures against Toxplasma infection especially in female workers at reproductive age. Expand
Seroepidemiology of infection with Toxoplasma gondii in migrant agricultural workers living in poverty in Durango, Mexico
TLDR
This is the first report of T. gondii infection in internal migrant agricultural workers living in poverty and seroprevalence was significantly higher in workers residing in rural areas than those in urban or suburban areas. Expand
High seroprevalence of Toxoplasma gondii infection in a subset of Mexican patients with work accidents and low socioeconomic status
TLDR
Seropositivity to T. gondii was associated to work accidents in a subset of patients with low socioeconomic status, the first report of an association of T. Gondii infection and work accidents. Expand
Seroepidemiology of Toxoplasma gondii infection in elderly people in a northern Mexican city.
TLDR
Seroprevalence of infection varied significantly with age, birthplace, and educational level, and a positive association of T. gondii infection with the presence of cats in the neighborhood, as well as consumption of boar, pigeon, iguana, and armadillo meats, and chorizo was shown. Expand
Seroepidemiology of Toxoplasma gondii in pregnant women in Aguascalientes City, Mexico: a cross-sectional study
TLDR
Results demonstrate that pregnant women in Aguascalientes City have a low seroprevalence of T. gondii infection, however, this low prevalence indicates that most pregnant women are at risk for a primary infection. Expand
Cross-sectional analysis of the seropositivity and risk factors of Toxoplasma gondii infection among veterinarians, in relation to their public professional activities.
TLDR
Seropositivity of T. gondii infection in the PV group was significantly related to involvement with the enforced destruction and contact with animals that were infected with zoonotic pathogens, and consumption of raw pork and drinking unboiled groundwater were critical dietary risk factors for seropositivities. Expand
Toxoplasma gondii seroprevalence in veterinarians in Finland: Older age, living in the countryside, tasting beef during cooking and not doing small animal practice associated with seropositivity
TLDR
A causal diagram approach was used to address the complexity of the life cycle of the parasite and its numerous possible transmission routes, and a multivariable binomial logistic regression model was built to identify risk factors that are particularly relevant for veterinarians. Expand
High Prevalence of Toxoplasma gondii Antibodies in Domestic Pigs in Oaxaca State, Mexico
TLDR
The results affirm that the management system (outdoor vs. indoor system with biosecurity) is a key factor in the epidemiology of porcine toxoplasmosis. Expand
Survey on the contamination of Toxoplasma gondii oocysts in the soil of public parks of Wuhan, China.
TLDR
The results indicate that the soil of public parks contaminated with T. gondii oocysts may play a role in the epidemiology of toxoplasmosis and effective preventive measures should be considered. Expand
High Seroprevalence of Toxoplasma Gondii Infection in Female Sex Workers: A Case-Control Study
TLDR
T. gondii seropositivity was associated with being born out of Durango State (OR = 10.47; 95% CI: 2.9–36.8; P < 0.01), injuries during sex work, and soil contact (or); this is the first report of an association of T. Gondii infection and female sex workers. Expand

Seroepidemiology of Infection with Toxoplasma gondii in Waste Pickers and Waste Workers in Durango, Mexico
TLDR
Waste pickers may represent a risk group for T. gondii infection and lack of education might be a contributing factor for Toxoplasma gond ii infection, and the higher the exposure to garbage, the Higher the seroprevalence of T. Gondii. Expand
Seroepidemiology of infection with Toxoplasma gondii in healthy blood donors of Durango, Mexico
TLDR
The prevalence of T. gondii infection in healthy blood donors of Durango City, Mexico is lower than those reported inBlood donors of south and central Mexico, and is one of the lowest reported in blood donors worldwide. Expand
Seroepidemiology of Toxoplasma gondii infection in pregnant women in a public hospital in northern Mexico

The prevalence of T. gondii infection in pregnant women of Durango City is low as compared with those reported in other regions of Mexico and the majority of other countries. Expand
Seroepidemiology of Toxoplasma gondii infection in psychiatric inpatients in a northern Mexican city
TLDR
In the present study, psychiatric inpatients in Durango, Mexico, in general and schizophrenic patients in particular had a significantly higher prevalence of T. gondii infection than the control group, and results suggest that unwashed raw fruit consumption might be the most important route of T-Gondii transmission in psychiatric patients while lamb meat consumption is the less important. Cats and Toxoplasma: Implications for Public Health
TLDR
Prevention efforts should focus on educating cat owners about the importance of collecting cat faeces in litter boxes, spaying owned cats to reduce overpopulation, reducing the numbers of feral cats and promoting rigorous hand hygiene after gardening or soil contact. Expand
