Brucellosis is one of the most important infectious bacterial diseases of animals and humans.1,2 It is caused by members of the genus Brucella, including Brucella melitensis, B. abortus, B. suis, B. neotamae, B. ovis and B. canis.1 The natural reservoirs of B. melitensis and B. ovis are sheep and goats.
