The genes encoding subunits A (vma1) and B (vma2) of the vacuolar H(+)-ATPase from Schizosaccharomyces pombe were cloned by hybridization to cDNAs of the homologous genes in Neurospora crassa. Both genes are interrupted by introns, two in vma1 and four in vma2. Positions of introns do not appear to be conserved when compared to those of N. crassa.
