The GLN1 gene, encoding glutamine synthetase in Saccharomyces cerevisiae, was sequenced, and its encoded polypeptide was shown to have significant homology to other eukaryotic glutamine synthetases. S1 analysis has defined the transcriptional start site of the gene.
