The PCK1 gene encoding PEP carboxykinase (Pck1) of the fungal pathogen Candida albicans was isolated and sequenced. The deduced Pck1 protein has high homology to ATP-dependent Pck1 proteins in other species, especially to Pck1 of Saccharomyces cerevisiae (70% homology), but not to GTP-dependent Pck1 proteins.
