We examined the expression of these genes in Lhx5 mutant embryos. At E12.5, all three of these genes were expressed in the hip-pocampal anlagen in both wild-type (Fig. 4, A through C) and mutant (Fig. 4, F through H) embryos, which indicates that the hip-pocampal precursor cells were specified after disruption of Lhx5.
