This study compared the factor structure of the Sensation-Seeking Scale (SSS) in English and American samples, and a new form of the SSS, applicable to both samples, was constructed. Three of the four factors showed good crossnational and cross-sex reliability. English and American males did not differ on the total SSS score, but American females scored higher than English females. Males in both countries scored higher than females on the total SSS score and on the Thrill and Adventure-Seeking…

Generation and Sex Differences in Sensation Seeking: Results of the Family Study

Analysis of the 1978 Form V of the Sensation Seeking Scale showed that parents had lower mean scores than their children, consistent with the hypothesis that sensation seeking declines with age.

Race and Sex Differences on the Sensation Seeking Scales

The Sensation Seeking Scale, Form IV, was administered to white and black, male and female college students (ns = 50; N = 200). Analyses showed that blacks scored significantly lower than whites on

Development of the Sexual Sensation-Seeking Scale for African American Adolescent Women

ABSTRACT We used data derived from two independent studies to examine the psychometric properties of a new scale to measure adolescents’ willingness to engage in sexual sensation-seeking behavior. In

Sex differences in sensation-seeking: a

Men score higher than women on measures of sensation-seeking, defined as a willingness to engage in novel or intense activities. This sex difference has been explained in terms of evolved

Cannabis use and sensation-seeking orientation.

Analysis of covariance controlling for the use of alcohol, cigarettes, and LSD decreased the level of significance between the user and nonuser groups on all the subscales of the sensation-seeking scale (SSS) and the total SSS scores; however, the differences between the users and nonusers remained significant on the disinhibition subscale.

A sensation seeking scale for children: Further refinement and psychometric development

A revision of the Sensation Seeking Scale for Children (SSSC) was standardized and validated on a community sample of 660 elementary- and middle-school children and 168 clinic-referred male children.

Sex differences in sensation-seeking: a meta-analysis

The results support the view that men and women differ in their propensity to report sensation-seeking characteristics, while behavioural manifestations of sensation- seeking vary over time.

The Sexual Sensation Seeking Scale: Reliablity and Validity Within a Heterosexual College Student Sample

The results reveal significant gender differences on the SSSS and similar (although stronger among women) patterns of significant correlations with sexually permissive characteristics and behaviors.

Factor Analysis of Zuckerman's Sensation-Seeking Scale

A principal components analysis of Sensation-seeking Scale IV (n = 156 undergraduates) followed by a varimax rotation provided some support to the factorial validity of some of Zuckerman's subscales.

Dimensions of Sensation Seeking.

Tested 63 new items for the Sensation Seeking Scale (SSS) in an attempt to develop new scales representative of hypothesized dimensions of sensation seeking. An experimental form was given to 332 and

Convergent and discriminant validation by the multitrait-multimethod matrix.

This transmutability of the validation matrix argues for the comparisons within the heteromethod block as the most generally relevant validation data, and illustrates the potential interchangeability of trait and method components.
