Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is common among the oriental population, including Japanese. HCC is an adenocarcinoma composed of cancer cells morphologically resembling normal hepatocytes. Since the molecular characteristics of HCC have not been clarified, we examined the expression of cytokeratins and hepatocyte paraffin 1 (Hep Par 1) to confirm the characteristics of HCC.
