A semi-Dirac cone refers to a peculiar type of dispersion relation that is linear along the symmetry line but quadratic in the perpendicular direction. Here, I demonstrate that a photonic crystal consisting of a square array of elliptical dielectric cylinders is able to produce this particular dispersion relation in the Brillouin zone center. A perturbation method is used to evaluate the linear slope and to affirm that the dispersion relation is a semi-Dirac type. Effective medium parameters…

Band engineering method to create Dirac cones of accidental degeneracy in general photonic crystals without symmetry.
This work demonstrates a systematic method to create Dirac cones of accidental degeneracy in general photonic crystals without symmetry and shows that these cones have the same properties as the symmetry-inducedDirac cones, such as finite group velocity and pseudo-diffusive transmission.

Demonstration of carpet cloaking by an anisotropic zero refractive index medium.
The carpet cloaking effect is demonstrated by a rectangular lattice two-dimensional photonic crystal exhibiting a semi-Dirac cone (SDC) dispersion phenomenon and the proposed SDC PC with an anisotropic zero refractive index medium operates as an optical carpet cloak for a perfect electric conductor surface bump.
Optical topological transition and refraction control in crystal quartz by tilting the optical axis
Optical topological transition of iso-frequency surfaces strongly modifies the propagation behavior within media. However, in most previous studies, optical topological transition was achieved by
New mechanism for optical super-resolution via anisotropic near-zero index metamaterials
In this paper, we propose a new mechanism for obtaining optical super-resolution based on anisotropic near-zero index metamaterials (AZIMs). It is found that AZIMs can not only achieve perfect
Topological phases in acoustic and mechanical systems
The study of classical wave physics has been reinvigorated by incorporating the concept of the geometric phase, which has its roots in optics, and topological notions that were previously explored in

This work proposes the non-Hermitian generalization of semi- Dirac semimetals, which feature a linear dispersion along one momentum direction and a quadratic one along the other, and studies the topological phase transitions in such two-dimensional semi-DiracSemimetals in the presence of a particle gain-and-loss term.
