Semantic Web and Knowledge Management for the health domain: state of the art and challenges for the Seventh Framework Programme (FP7) of the European Union (2007-2013)


Information Systems in the context of the health domain play a critical role. The evolution of the semantic web and knowledge management technologies in the last years set a new context for the exploitation of patient-centric strategies based on well-defined semantics and knowledge. In this paper we have two critical objectives. On the one hand to exploit the state of the art on Semantic Web and Knowledge Management (KM) approaches in the context of the health domain and on the other hand to underline the key challenges within the FP7 framework of the European union for customised and personalised health services. Patras). His research focuses on the semantic web, knowledge management and e-learning, with more than 80 publications in these areas. He has co-edited/co-edits 25 special issues in International Journals (like IEEE Π10 1/11 2 M.D. Lytras et al. (RACTI). He received his MSc Degree with honours and his diploma in Computer Engineering and Informatics from the same institution. His research interests include web searching, large data set handling, data mining, web services, web engineering, web usage mining, web based education and intranets. He has more than 30 publications in international journals and conferences in these areas. Patricia Ordóñez de Pablos is a Professor in the Department of Business Administration and Accountability, at the Faculty of Economics of The University of Oviedo (Spain). Her teaching and research interests focus on the areas of strategic management, knowledge management, intellectual capital measuring and reporting, organisational learning and human resources management. She is Executive Editor of the International Journal of Learning and Intellectual and the International Journal of Strategic Change Management.
