Using the recently developed version of the GW method employing the one-site approximation and self-consistent quasiparticle basis set we calculated the electronic structure of 3d and 4d transition metals at experimental atomic volumes. The results are compared with traditional local density approach and with experimental XPS and BIS spectra. Our results indicate that this technique can be used as a practical starting point for more sophisticated many-body studies of realistic electronic…

Effect of ladder diagrams on optical absorption spectra in a quasiparticle self-consistent GW framework

We present an approach to calculate the optical absorption spectra that combines the quasiparticle self-consistent GW method [Phys. Rev. B, 76 165106 (2007)] for the electronic structure with the

Dynamical coherent-potential approximation approach to excitation spectra in3dtransition metals

First-principles dynamical CPA (Coherent-Potential Approximation) for electron correlations has been developed further by taking into account higher-order dynamical corrections with use of the

Configurational thermodynamics of alloys from first principles: effective cluster interactions

Phase equilibria in alloys to a great extent are governed by the ordering behavior of alloy species. One of the important goals of alloy theory is therefore to be able to simulate these kinds of

Prospects for Non-Rare Earth Permanent Magnets for Traction Motors and Generators

With the advent of high-flux density permanent magnets based on rare earth elements such as neodymium (Nd) in the 1980s, permanent magnet-based electric machines had a clear performance and cost

Practical Aspects of Modern and Future Permanent Magnets

The mandate to reduce greenhouse gases will require highly efficient electric machines for both power generation and traction motor applications. Although permanent magnet electric machines utilizing

Importance of charge self-consistency in first-principles description of strongly correlated systems

First-principles approaches have been successful in solving many-body Hamiltonians for real materials to an extent when correlations are weak or moderate. As the electronic correlations become
