In the present study, we compared the survival of patients with multi tumor hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) following their treatment with liver resection versus TAE. A total of 336 HCC patients were treated at Osaka University Hospital between 1980 and 1989. Of these, 140 patients underwent liver resection in the presence or absence of TAE and 173 subjects were treated with TAE alone.
