The work reported here represents the first step in a seismological investigation which may be considered as intermediate between seismic prospecting and the study of earthquakes. The vibrations studied were from blasts in limestone-quarries operated cement and crushed-stone manufacturers. These vibrations have been recorded at distances ranging up to 13 miles. Most of the observations have been taken in Lehigh and Northampton counties in eastern Pennsylvania.
